Dental Assistant

Job Summary

Responsibilities
Assist dentists during a variety of dental procedures, including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry, ensuring all tools and materials are prepared and sterile. Take and develop dental X-rays, including 3D scans when necessary, accurately documenting findings for review. Manage patient records using Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations for patient privacy. Provide chairside assistance by preparing treatment rooms, passing instruments, and maintaining aseptic techniques throughout procedures. Monitor vital signs and medical imaging as needed to support patient safety during treatments. Support front desk operations by greeting patients, scheduling appointments, and managing medical documentation with precision. Maintain infection control protocols and ensure all dental equipment is properly sterilized and functioning correctly.

Skills
Proficiency in dental assisting techniques with a strong understanding of dental terminology and anatomy knowledge. Experience working with EMR systems like Dentrix or Eaglesoft; familiarity with Epic or similar platforms is a plus. Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and best practices for safeguarding patient information. Ability to perform X-ray procedures safely and effectively; experience with medical imaging is preferred. Strong understanding of infection control standards and aseptic techniques to prevent cross-contamination. Excellent communication skills as a dental receptionist; capable of explaining procedures clearly to pediatric patients and their families. Familiarity with medical coding and documentation processes related to dental records and insurance claims.
