Duties
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up dental tools, and ensuring all equipment is functioning properly in accordance with infection control protocols.
- Assist dentists during a variety of procedures including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry by handing instruments and materials efficiently.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays), including 3D scans, while adhering to safety standards and HIPAA regulations for patient privacy.
- Record detailed medical and dental histories, vital signs, and treatment notes accurately using electronic medical records (EMR) systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix.
- Maintain strict infection control practices using aseptic techniques to ensure patient safety and uphold clinic standards.
- Educate patients on dental procedures, post-treatment care, and oral hygiene practices to promote health literacy.
- Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, managing medical documentation, and assisting the dental receptionist with patient check-in/out processes.
Skills
- Proficiency with EMR systems like Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic for managing medical records and documentation.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and medical terminology relevant to dentistry.
- Experience with dental imaging techniques including X-ray procedures and 3D scanning technology.
- Familiarity with infection control protocols, aseptic techniques, and sterilization procedures within a dental clinic environment.
- Ability to perform chairside assisting efficiently in four-handed dentistry setups for various specialties including pediatric dentistry and prosthodontics.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality at all times.
- Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with patients of all ages, especially pediatrics, fostering a positive experience.
