Dental Assistant

Duties

  • Prepare treatment rooms with necessary instruments, supplies, and materials before patient appointments.
  • Assist dentists during various procedures including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry.
  • Take and develop dental X-rays using advanced medical imaging equipment such as 3D scanners and traditional radiography tools.
  • Ensure infection control protocols are strictly followed through aseptic techniques and proper sterilization procedures.
  • Manage medical documentation by accurately recording patient information, medical history, vital signs, and treatment details in electronic health records (EHR) systems like Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic.
  • Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, updating medical records, and acting as a dental receptionist when needed.
  • Maintain knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and medical coding to ensure precise communication and documentation.
  • Assist with patient education on oral hygiene practices and post-treatment care instructions tailored for pediatric patients when applicable.

Skills

  • Proficiency with EMR systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic for managing medical records efficiently.
  • Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations to protect patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Experience with dental X-ray procedures and the operation of medical imaging equipment including 3D scanners.
  • Knowledge of infection control standards and aseptic techniques essential for maintaining a safe clinical environment.
  • Ability to perform chairside assisting with competence in four-handed dentistry techniques to optimize procedure flow.
  • Familiarity with dental terminology, anatomy knowledge, and the specifics of pediatric dentistry to effectively support diverse patient needs.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact professionally with patients, parents in pediatrics, and team members alike.
  • Capable of handling administrative duties such as managing medical documentation, coordinating appointments, and supporting the dental receptionist role when necessary.
