Responsibilities
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments and ensuring all necessary supplies are ready for procedures
- Assist dentists during various treatments, including chairside assisting with procedures such as restorations, extractions, and prosthodontics
- Take and develop dental X-rays, including digital imaging and 3D scans, adhering to strict infection control protocols
- Manage patient records using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like Dentrix or Eaglesoft, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Educate patients on oral hygiene practices, post-treatment care, and treatment plans to promote overall dental health
- Monitor vital signs and medical documentation for pediatric dentistry cases or patients with special needs
- Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, greeting patients as a dental receptionist, and maintaining organized medical records
Qualifications
- Proven experience in dental assisting within a general or pediatric dentistry setting is highly preferred
- Proficiency with EMR systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft; familiarity with Epic is a plus
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control practices, and aseptic techniques
- Ability to perform X-ray procedures accurately while maintaining patient safety and comfort
- Knowledge of medical terminology, medical coding, and medical documentation standards for comprehensive patient care
- Experience with dental imaging technologies including 3D scanners and digital radiography equipment
- Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with patients of all ages, especially pediatrics, and team members
- Certification in CPR or BLS is desirable; ongoing training in infection control and HIPAA compliance is expected
