Duties
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up dental materials, and ensuring all necessary supplies are ready for procedures.
- Assist dentists during a variety of treatments including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry, providing chairside support with precision and care.
- Take and develop dental X-rays using advanced medical imaging equipment such as 3D scanners while adhering to strict infection control and aseptic techniques.
- Manage patient records efficiently using electronic medical record (EMR) systems like OpenDental, ensuring accuracy in medical documentation and coding.
- Monitor vital signs and assist in medical assessments when necessary to ensure patient safety throughout procedures.
- Educate patients on post-treatment care and oral hygiene practices to promote long-term dental health.
- Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments with the dental receptionist and maintaining organized medical records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Qualifications
- Proven experience working in a dental clinic environment with familiarity in dental assisting procedures and terminology.
- Proficiency with EMR systems including OpenDental: experience with medical coding and documentation is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of infection control protocols, aseptic techniques, anatomy, and dental terminology to ensure safe practice standards.
- Ability to operate dental imaging equipment such as X-ray machines and 3D scanners confidently.
- Strong understanding of pediatric dentistry principles and experience caring for pediatric patients is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with the dental team and provide compassionate patient care.
