Responsibilities
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up dental tools, and ensuring all equipment is functioning properly following infection control protocols.
- Assist dentists during various procedures such as examinations, restorations, endodontics, prosthodontics, and pediatric dentistry with precision and professionalism.
- Take and develop dental X-rays using advanced imaging technology including 3D scanners while ensuring patient safety through proper use of aseptic technique.
- Manage patient records electronically using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like Dentrix or Eaglesoft, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Provide chairside assistance by handing instruments, suctioning, and maintaining a clear working area to facilitate efficient procedures.
- Educate patients on oral health care practices, post-operative instructions, and answer questions about treatments in a friendly manner.
- Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, verifying insurance information, and assisting the dental receptionist with medical documentation and coding.
Experience
- Prior experience working in a dental clinic environment is highly preferred, especially with general dentistry or pediatric dentistry practices.
- Proficiency in dental terminology, medical terminology, and medical coding to accurately document procedures and maintain medical records.
- Familiarity with EMR systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft; experience with Epic or other healthcare software is a plus.
- Knowledge of infection control standards including sterilization techniques and aseptic procedures to ensure patient safety.
- Ability to perform X-ray imaging safely while adhering to all safety guidelines; experience with 3D scanners is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of anatomy relevant to dentistry and pediatric patients to assist effectively across diverse cases.
- Excellent communication skills for collaborating with team members as part of four-handed dentistry practices and supporting the dental receptionist when needed.
