Duties
Assist dentists during a variety of procedures including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry, ensuring all tools and materials are prepared efficiently. Operate electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Eaglesoft to accurately document patient information, treatment plans, and medical records while adhering to HIPAA regulations for patient privacy. Take and develop dental X-rays using advanced imaging technology following strict aseptic techniques to prevent infection. Manage patient flow by performing vital signs assessments, updating medical documentation, and coordinating appointments with the dental receptionist. Implement infection control protocols and maintain a sterile environment through proper sterilization and aseptic techniques to ensure safety for patients and staff. Provide chairside assistance with four-handed dentistry techniques, supporting the dentist seamlessly during procedures by handling instruments and materials efficiently. Assist with dental terminology explanations to help patients understand their treatments clearly while demonstrating knowledge of anatomy and dental procedures.
Qualifications
Previous experience working in a dental clinic setting is highly preferred, especially with general dentistry, pediatric dentistry, prosthodontics, or endodontics. Proficiency in dental assisting tasks including X-ray procedures, chairside assisting, and infection control practices. Familiarity with EMR systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic is essential for accurate documentation and efficient workflow management. Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and medical coding standards to ensure compliance with privacy laws and accurate billing processes. Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy knowledge related to oral structures, and proficiency in taking vital signs. Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members including dental receptionists and other healthcare professionals. Ability to maintain high standards of aseptic technique and infection control while working in a fast-paced environment focused on patient safety.
