Duties
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up dental tools, and ensuring all equipment is functioning properly with aseptic technique.
- Assist dentists during various procedures such as restorations, extractions, endodontics, prosthodontics, and pediatric dentistry by providing chairside support.
- Take and develop dental X-rays and medical imaging, including 3D scans, ensuring proper positioning and safety protocols are followed.
- Manage patient records using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Monitor vital signs of patients before procedures and assist with medical documentation related to medical history and current health status.
- Educate patients on oral hygiene practices, post-treatment care, and explain dental terminology clearly to enhance understanding.
- Support front desk operations as a dental receptionist when needed by scheduling appointments, verifying insurance information, and managing medical coding for billing purposes.
Experience
- Prior experience working in a dental clinic setting is required; familiarity with general dentistry procedures is essential.
- Proficiency in dental assisting techniques including chairside assisting, infection control practices, and aseptic technique.
- Knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and medical terminology relevant to dentistry.
- Experience with EMR systems such as open dental and Archy is highly preferred.
- Ability to operate dental equipment including X-ray machines, intraoral cameras, and 3D scanners confidently.
- Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations related to patient privacy and data security.
- Excellent communication skills suitable for working with pediatric patients and supporting a team-oriented environment focused on general dentistry or specialty areas like prosthodontics or endodontics.
