Dental Assistant

Duties

  • Assist dentists during a variety of dental procedures including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry.
  • Prepare treatment rooms with necessary instruments and materials, ensuring all equipment is sterilized and ready for use following strict infection control protocols.
  • Take and develop dental X-rays, including 3D scans, while maintaining proper safety measures and adhering to HIPAA regulations for patient privacy.
  • Manage electronic medical records using EMR systems such as Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Epic to document treatment details accurately and efficiently.
  • Support patients by explaining procedures, taking vital signs, and ensuring their comfort throughout visits.
  • Maintain a clean and organized clinical environment by following aseptic techniques and infection control standards.
  • Collaborate with the dental team as a four-handed dentistry partner to enhance efficiency during procedures.
  • Assist with medical documentation and coding related to dental procedures to ensure accurate recordkeeping and billing.
  • Support the dental receptionist in scheduling appointments, managing patient flow, and handling administrative duties related to medical records.

Requirements

  • Proven experience working in a dental clinic environment with knowledge of general dentistry practices.
  • Proficiency in dental assisting techniques including chairside assisting, taking X-rays, and vital signs measurement.
  • Familiarity with EMR systems such as Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Epic for managing medical records and documentation.
  • Strong understanding of dental terminology, anatomy knowledge, infection control practices, and aseptic techniques.
  • Ability to perform medical imaging procedures including X-ray and 3D scanning with precision and safety awareness.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Experience supporting pediatric dentistry is highly desirable; familiarity with pediatric-specific procedures is a plus.
