Oral Surgery Assistant
Role and Responsibilities
Nesbitt Oral & Facial Surgery is seeking an experienced dental assistant who brings positive energy and has a passion for providing high quality patient care. Prior dental assisting experience is required; oral surgery experience is preferred. Be part of a team and patient-centered environment where the number one priority is patient safety and care.
As an Oral Surgery Assistant, your primary focus will be to assist with pre-surgical care and education, assist the doctor during surgeries and provide post-surgical care and instruction. During surgeries, you will be expected to monitor vital signs and anesthesiology equipment, provide chair side assistance to the surgeon, take thorough and accurate notes, sterilize and store instruments after use. Accurate records management, as well as following all OSHA and safety guidelines is critical to success in this role.
Nesbitt Oral & Facial Surgery is a family owned/managed, single provider practice in Mooresville, NC.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Welcome patients and perform per-surgical care- reviewing medical history, checking vitals, obtaining informed consent, and preparing the patient for surgery (including starting IVs)
- Operate x-ray equipment (certification required)
- Take comprehensive patient notes throughout the consultation
- Assist the oral surgeon during surgery, providing suction, monitoring instruments and swapping tools
- Monitor and record vitals, procedure records and medication administration records
- Assist the surgeon in the management of medical emergencies as necessary
- Provide clear and comprehensive post-operative instruction to patients under the guidance of the surgeon, as part of the discharge process
- Disinfect, sterilize and store equipment after use
- Ensure a clean and tidy operating space between procedures
- Contribute to an overall clean work environment
- Follow all OSHA and office safety guidelines, including accurate and timely completion for all safety records/logs
- Follow all HIPAA and patient privacy guidelines
- Be proactive in contributing to an overall positive patient and team experience, including working productively with teammates to improve office procedures, handoffs and communication
Qualifications and Requirements
- Prior dental assisting experience is required, preferably in an oral surgery environment
- All relevant state licensure (DANB preferred)
- Valid CPR/BLS, sterilization/infection control and X-Ray Certifications
- DAANCE certification is preferred, or willingness to pursue
- ACLS is preferred
- IV Certification and experience preferred
- Experience with implant equipment and anesthesia is preferred
- All certifications are expected to be maintained throughout employment

- Dental assisting: 3 years (Required)
- Oral Surgery: 1 year (Preferred)
License/Certification:
- Radiology/X-Ray Certification (Required)
