Job Summary
Join a dynamic and specialized healthcare team as a Dental Assistant in an Orofacial Pain Practice dedicated to diagnosing and managing complex orofacial pain conditions. Duties
- Prepare treatment rooms with sterile instruments and materials, adhering to aseptic techniques and infection control protocols.
- Assist dentists during examinations, procedures, and treatments related to orofacial pain, including chairside assisting with dental terminology and medical documentation.
- Take X-ray images, operate 3D scanners, and support medical imaging processes to assist in accurate diagnosis.
- Manage electronic medical records (EMR systems) such as Tebra, Dental Writer+, and ensuring accurate documentation of patient histories, vital signs, and treatment plans.
- Conduct patient intake by recording vital signs, reviewing medical history, and explaining procedures clearly to pediatric dentistry patients when applicable.
- Support administrative tasks including scheduling appointments as a dental receptionist, verifying insurance information, and maintaining medical records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Collaborate with the dental team for efficient patient care delivery while maintaining high standards of infection control.
- Assist in the use of advanced diagnostic tools such as 3D scanners and ensure proper operation of equipment used for medical imaging.
- Educate patients on dental terminology related to their condition and post-treatment care instructions to promote understanding and compliance.
- Maintain a clean, organized clinical environment following all infection control protocols and OSHA standards.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Dental Assistant in a dental or medical clinic.
- Familiarity with EMR systems; experience with medical coding and documentation is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of dental terminology, anatomy knowledge related to the head and neck region, and infection control practices.
- Ability to perform chairside assisting efficiently during complex procedures involving occlusal guard and MORA fittings or other specialties within orofacial pain management.
- Competence in taking X-ray images accurately while adhering to safety standards; experience with 3D scanners is a plus.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations concerning patient privacy and confidentiality.
- Excellent communication skills suitable for explaining technical information clearly to patients when necessary.
- Certification in dental assisting preferred; additional training in medical terminology or medical assistant is advantageous.
