Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Dental Assistant-Orthodontic Assistant to join our dynamic team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to support our orthodontic department, ensuring exceptional patient care and smooth clinical operations. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in dental assisting, with specific experience in orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, and ability to cross train for front desk duties, contributing to a positive patient experience and efficient clinic workflow.

Responsibilities

  • Assist dentists during a variety of dental procedures, including orthodontic treatments, pediatric treatment and front desk duties
  • Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up necessary equipment, and ensuring compliance with infection control protocols such as aseptic technique.
  • Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays), including 3D scans using advanced imaging technology like 3D scanners.
  • Manage patient records accurately within electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Dentrix, ensuring HIPAA compliance for patient privacy.
  • Provide chairside assistance by handling dental instruments, materials, and supplies efficiently during procedures.
  • Monitor vital signs when necessary and assist with medical documentation related to patient health history or medical coding requirements.
  • Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, greeting patients as a dental receptionist, and maintaining organized medical records.
  • Uphold infection control standards and maintain a safe clinical environment aligned with healthcare regulations.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in dental assisting within a busy clinical setting; experience in pediatric dentistry or orthodontics is highly preferred.
  • Proficiency with EMR systems such as Dentrix.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and best practices for patient confidentiality and data security.
  • Ability to perform X-ray procedures accurately while adhering to safety standards; certification in radiography is required.
  • Strong understanding of dental terminology, anatomy knowledge, and infection control protocols.
  • Experience with Orthodontic procedures and can work independently doing DA functions for Ortho patients
  • Familiarity with medical terminology, medical documentation processes, and basic medical coding practices.
  • Excellent communication skills combined with the ability to work effectively within a team environment supporting Ortho and pediatric patients and their families.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $27.50 - $33.00 per hour

  • Orthodontic assisting : 2 years (Required)
  • Dental office: 2 years (Required)

License/Certification:

  • OA (Preferred)
  • Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) (Required)
  • X-Ray Certification (Required)
