Duties
- Complete cleanings on pediatric patients and present patient to doctor for exam
- Assist the dentist during various procedures including exams and treatment
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up supplies, and ensuring a clean, safe environment following infection control protocols and aseptic techniques
- Take and develop dental X-rays using digital imaging systems
- Support pediatric patients by explaining procedures in an age-appropriate manner and providing reassurance to foster trust and cooperation
- Manage charting, including updating dental records, and ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations for patient privacy
- Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, managing medical records, and assisting the dental receptionist as needed
- Practice four-handed dentistry techniques to improve efficiency during procedures while maintaining excellent teamwork with the dentist
Requirements
- Prior experience working in a dental clinic environment with familiarity in dental assisting tasks and terminology
- Knowledge practice management software (we currently use Dentrix, but knowledge of other practice management software is helpful!)
- Experience taking X-rays
- Understanding of infection control standards, aseptic technique, anatomy knowledge related to oral health, and dental terminology
- Ability to perform chairside assisting efficiently while supporting the dentist during procedures
- Strong communication skills to explain procedures clearly to children and parents alike
- Certification in X-ray techniques preferred; ongoing training in pediatric dentistry practices is a plus
