Dental Assistant/Receptionist

Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Dental Assistant/Receptionist to join our vibrant dental practice. This role combines front desk administrative support with clinical assistance, ensuring a seamless patient experience from appointment scheduling to treatment. The ideal candidate will be energetic, highly organized, and passionate about providing exceptional patient care. You will be responsible for managing patient interactions, verifying insurance, maintaining accurate medical records, and supporting the clinical team with dental procedures. Duties

  • Greet patients warmly and manage the front desk with professionalism, including answering multi-line phone systems and scheduling appointments using dental office management software such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft
  • Verify insurance coverage and benefits, including Medicare and other third-party payers, ensuring accurate billing and coding using CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10 codes, and dental terminology
  • Collect payments, perform medical collections when necessary, and process billing using EMR (Electronic Medical Record) systems like Meditech or Athenahealth
  • Prepare and review patient documentation, medical records, and care plans while maintaining strict compliance with HIPAA regulations for health information management
  • Assist dental clinicians during procedures by preparing instruments and materials while adhering to infection control protocols
  • Manage electronic health records (EHR systems) such as eClinicalWorks or Dentrix for documentation review and data entry with high accuracy
  • Conduct insurance verification, intake procedures, and appointment confirmations while demonstrating excellent phone etiquette and customer service skills
  • Maintain a clean and organized office environment by filing documents, managing medical records, and supporting office management tasks such as inventory control

Experience

  • Prior clinic experience in a dental or medical office setting is highly preferred
  • Demonstrated proficiency with EMR/EHR systems including Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, Eaglesoft or Dentrix
  • Strong knowledge of medical billing, coding (CPT, ICD-9/10), and insurance verification processes
  • Experience with medical collection procedures and documentation review in a healthcare environment
  • Bilingual abilities are a plus to better serve diverse patient populations
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel) and typing proficiency (10 key typing)
  • Exceptional patient service skills with a focus on clear communication and professionalism at the front desk
  • Familiarity with dental terminology and clinic operations to support clinical staff effectively
  • Ability to handle multi-line phone systems efficiently while maintaining a positive attitude in fast-paced settings
