Duties
- Perform thorough dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing to remove plaque and tartar buildup
- Take and evaluate vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, and respiration to monitor patient health status
- Assist dentists during procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques to ensure smooth, efficient care delivery
- Conduct patient assessments by reviewing medical history, current symptoms, and dental concerns for accurate diagnosis
- Capture and interpret medical imaging such as X-rays, ensuring proper technique and safety protocols are followed
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, dietary habits, and post-treatment care to promote lasting health benefits
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation review in compliance with HIPAA regulations and dental office standards
Skills
- Proficiency with dental software systems such as Eaglesoft for scheduling, documentation, and record management
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control procedures, and aseptic techniques
- Experience with pediatric dentistry and pediatrics-specific patient care approaches
- Ability to perform chairside assisting efficiently while maintaining excellent patient rapport
- Familiarity with medical coding, documentation review, EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems, and HIPAA compliance
- Knowledge of general dentistry practices along with specialized skills in pediatric dentistry when applicable
- Excellent communication skills to explain procedures clearly and provide compassionate patient care
