Responsibilities
- Perform thorough dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing teeth to remove plaque and tartar buildup
- Assist dentists during examinations and procedures with chairside support, ensuring smooth workflow using four-handed dentistry techniques
- Take and evaluate vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, and respiration to assess patient health status before treatment
- Capture and interpret medical imaging, including X-rays, ensuring accurate documentation and adherence to safety protocols
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices and post-treatment care to promote long-term dental health
- Review medical records and documentation for accuracy, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations and maintaining confidentiality
- Maintain infection control standards through aseptic techniques, sterilization procedures, and proper handling of dental instruments
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Dental Hygienist in a general or pediatric dentistry setting; familiarity with dental office software such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix is highly preferred
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control practices, and medical terminology
- Ability to perform patient assessments effectively and deliver compassionate patient care tailored to pediatric or adult patients
- Proficiency in medical coding, documentation review, and electronic medical record (EMR) systems to ensure precise recordkeeping
- Excellent communication skills to educate patients clearly about treatments and oral health strategies
- Certification as a licensed Dental Hygienist in accordance with state regulations; additional certifications in pediatrics or infection control are advantageous
- Knowledge of pediatric dentistry principles is a plus for working with young patients
