Dental / Orthodontic Assistant

Duties

  • Prepare treatment areas by sterilizing instruments, setting up dental tools, and ensuring all supplies are ready for procedures
  • Assist dentists during various treatments including restorations, extractions, endodontics, prosthodontics, and pediatric dentistry procedures
  • Take and develop dental X-rays and medical imaging with precision and adherence to safety protocols
  • Manage patient records using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft, ensuring accurate documentation of medical history and treatment notes
  • Support infection control practices by maintaining aseptic technique and adhering to HIPAA regulations for patient privacy
  • Monitor vital signs and assist with medical documentation for patients requiring medical history updates or special care needs
  • Handle administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, managing medical records, and supporting the dental receptionist with patient check-in/out processes

Requirements

  • Proven experience working in a dental clinic environment with knowledge of general dentistry procedures and terminology
  • Proficiency in dental assisting techniques including chairside assisting, four-handed dentistry, and medical coding
  • Familiarity with EMR systems like Dentrix or Eaglesoft; experience with Epic is a plus
  • Ability to operate dental equipment such as X-ray machines, 3D scanners, and other medical imaging tools safely and effectively
  • Strong understanding of infection control protocols, aseptic techniques, anatomy knowledge, and dental terminology
  • Knowledge of pediatric dentistry practices is highly desirable along with experience working with children in a clinical setting
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members including dental receptionists and specialists in prosthodontics or endodontics
  • Certification in X-ray safety and CPR is preferred; ongoing training in HIPAA compliance is required

Pay: $24.00 - $28.00 per hour
