Duties
- Greet patients warmly and professionally, establishing a positive first impression.
- Schedule appointments efficiently using dental practice management software such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft.
- Verify insurance coverage, perform insurance eligibility checks, and handle insurance verification processes.
- Manage patient check-in and check-out procedures with accuracy and care.
- Collect payments, process medical collections, and handle billing using systems like Meditech or Athenahealth.
- Maintain accurate and organized dental records, including documentation review and medical history updates.
- Assist with intake procedures, including gathering medical history, updating care plans, and explaining treatment procedures.
- Use multi-line phone systems to answer inquiries promptly while demonstrating excellent phone etiquette.
- Support office management tasks such as filing, data entry (including 10 key typing), and maintaining medical office supplies.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations by safeguarding patient information and handling documentation review responsibly.
Experience
- Prior experience working as a dental receptionist or in a medical administrative support role is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated proficiency with dental practice management software such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft; familiarity with EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like Epic or Meditech is advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, CPT coding (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD coding (International Classification of Diseases), ICD-10/ICD-9 codes, and medical billing practices.
- Experience with insurance verification processes including Medicare and Medicaid is desirable.
- Bilingual abilities are a plus to effectively serve diverse patient populations.
- Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and health information management systems such as eClinicalWorks or Athenahealth.
- Proven ability to deliver outstanding customer service while managing multi-line phones and scheduling appointments efficiently.
- Familiarity with office equipment including fax machines, filing systems, and multi-line phone systems in a healthcare setting.
