Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Dental Sterilization Technician to join our team. This role is essential in ensuring the safety of our patients and staff by maintaining proper sterilization and organization of dental instruments and operatories.
Responsibilities
- Properly clean, sterilize, and package dental instruments using autoclaves and other sterilization equipment in accordance with infection control protocols.
- Assist clinical team with maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
- Maintain detailed records of sterilization cycles, instrument inventory, and medical documentation to ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Assist with chairside procedures by passing instruments, maintaining a sterile field, and supporting the dental team during various treatments including pediatric dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and general dentistry.
- Prepare dental operatory areas by organizing supplies, ensuring the availability of sterile instruments, and adhering to aseptic techniques.
- Support the dental team by managing medical records, updating patient information in EMR systems such as Open Dental, and assisting with dental coding when necessary.
- Follow strict infection control procedures, including proper handling of contaminated materials and knowledge of anatomy to ensure safety for patients and staff.
Skills
- Extensive knowledge of infection control practices and aseptic techniques within a dental setting.
- Previous dental or sterilization experience preferred, but willing to train the right candidate.
- Proficiency in using EMR systems such as Open Dental for managing patient records and medical documentation.
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations to ensure patient privacy and data security.
- Experience with dental assisting tasks including chairside assisting, taking X-rays (including 3D scans), and supporting pediatric dentistry procedures.
- Strong understanding of dental terminology, anatomy knowledge, and medical terminology relevant to dentistry.
- Ability to operate sterilization equipment effectively while maintaining detailed logs of sterilization cycles.
- Excellent organizational skills to manage medical records, inventory supplies, and maintain compliance with infection control standards.
