Dental Sterilization Technician

Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and dedicated Dental Sterilization Technician to join our busy dental practice. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in maintaining the highest standards of infection control and sterilization protocols to ensure patient safety and smooth clinic operations. This position offers an opportunity to work within a collaborative dental team, supporting various clinical functions and contributing to excellent patient care. Prior experience with dental sterilization procedures, infection control, and familiarity with dental software systems is highly desirable. The role requires a strong understanding of dental terminology, anatomy, and clinical procedures to support our team effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Properly clean, disinfect, and sterilize dental instruments using autoclaves and other sterilization equipment in accordance with OSHA and CDC guidelines.
  • Prepare instrument trays for various procedures, ensuring all necessary tools are sterile and organized.
  • Maintain accurate records of sterilization cycles, instrument inventory, and supply levels using EMR systems such as Eaglesoft.
  • Assist with maintaining a sterile environment in treatment areas by following aseptic techniques and infection control protocols.
  • Support clinical staff with chairside assisting duties as needed, including passing instruments and preparing materials for procedures.
  • Manage medical documentation and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations regarding patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Monitor the clinic’s infection control standards by regularly inspecting sterilization equipment and ensuring proper storage of sterilized instruments.
  • Assist in training new staff on sterilization procedures and infection control practices.
  • Support pediatric dentistry procedures by understanding relevant dental terminology, anatomy, and pediatric-specific protocols when necessary.

Experience

  • Previous experience working in a dental clinic or healthcare environment is preferred.
  • Knowledge of infection control standards, aseptic techniques, and sterilization procedures within a dental setting is essential.
  • Experience with medical imaging (X-ray), medical documentation, medical coding, or chairside assisting is a plus.
  • Understanding of dental specialties such as prosthodontics, endodontics, pediatrics, or general dentistry can enhance performance in this role.
  • Certification or training in dental assisting or related fields is beneficial but not mandatory. This position offers an integral role within our team dedicated to providing safe, efficient, and high-quality dental care while supporting the overall health and well-being of our patients.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $17.00 per hour

Expected hours: 36 – 40 per week
