Job Summary:

Provides comprehensive and emergency dental care to the patients of Valley Health Partners Community Health Center (VHP). This position plays a key role providing preventative and restorative high quality dental care to the vulnerable children and members of the community we serve. The primary focus with be examination, diagnosis, and treatment of the pediatric population in the Allentown School District. Functions effectively within the mobile dental clinic, health center, and other health care environments. Complies with health center safety, infection control, and patient confidentiality.


Requirements:

Education:

  • Graduation from an accredited Dental School and completion of residency training.

Experience:

  • More than three years of Dentistry experience in medically needy and underserved communities and in a community health center setting, preferred.

Licensure/Certificates:

  • Active/current Dentistry license in practice in Pennsylvania upon hire.
  • Active/current Basic Life Support (BLS) and DEA upon hire.

Training:

  • Successful completion of national boards upon hire.

Skills Needed:

  • Possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the tact necessary to deal effectively with patients, physicians, and colleagues.
  • Experience with Electronic Dental Records and digital radiography.
  • Demonstrates ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team, in collaborative settings.
  • Understands and is committed to maintaining highest level of confidentiality while being sensitive to the needs of culturally diverse patient and colleague population.

Essential Functions:

  • Acts as a primary dental care provider for individuals and groups of patients within the community health center and dental mobile unit.
  • Provides comprehensive dental care to adult and pediatric populations.
  • Delivers superior quality care to all patients regardless of socioeconomic status or cultural background.
  • Completes all patient charts including medical history consultations, treatment plans, and progress notes in a timely fashion.
  • Diagnoses and treats diseases, injuries and malformations of teeth and gums and related oral structures.
  • Diagnoses and treats emergency dental situations.
  • Provides preventative care such as cleanings, x-rays, sealants.
  • Provides restorative care as needed such as fillings, pulpotomies, stainless steel crowns, extractions
  • Provides complex care as needed such as replacement of missing teeth via fixed or removable prosthetics.
  • Provides basic appliance therapy as needed such as space maintenance and occlusal guards.
  • Plans and provides multidisciplinary oral health care for patients with special needs.
  • Reviews the medical history and evaluates the oral condition of patients.
  • Addresses urgent/emergent dental problems and emergency patient concerns in the dental medicine department.
  • Refers out complex Endodontic, Surgical, ortho and Periodontal therapies as needed. Performs and completes the remaining portion of the treatment plan.
  • Manages the delivery of oral health care by applying concepts of patient and practice management and
  • quality improvement.
  • Develops and implements patient dental education programs in accordance with currently acceptable dental practices.
  • Ensures safety and security of Dental Medicine department according to HRSA and OSHA requirements.
  • Exercises direct supervision of the assigned/designated dental staff.
  • Attends dental provider meetings and participates in case study discussions.
