Job Description:

The Dentist will provide basic primary dental care and services to juvenile and also to the adult patients. This role operates within a secure correctional environment, emphasizing preventive care, emergency treatment, and compliance with county policies, Title 15 Standards, and medical staff guidelines. The position supports the department's mission to deliver medical, dental, and mental health services to incarcerated populations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct dental screenings, examinations, and assessments for oral health issues.
  • Provide disease prevention education, including oral hygiene instructions, nutrition guidance (e.g., sugar control), and brushing techniques.
  • Manage pain control and infections through appropriate interventions.
  • Perform oral surgery procedures, including root canal openings, impactions, extractions, and periodontal drainage.
  • Conduct subgingival curettage, scaling, root planing, and dental prophylaxis.
  • Place amalgam fillings, composite fillings, and stainless steel (SS) crowns.
  • Deliver home care instructions and follow-up care post-procedures.
  • Collaborate with the medical staff to ensure integrated patient care.
  • Maintain accurate patient records in compliance with HIPAA and facility protocols.
  • Adhere to all applicable policies, procedures, rules, and regulations established by the county and CHC.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) from an accredited dental school.
  • Active, unrestricted license to practice dentistry in the State of California.
  • Minimum of 3+years of experience as a Dentist is required.
  • Strong knowledge of dental anatomy, oral pathology, and infection control.
  • Ability to work in a high-stress, secure environment with diverse patient needs.
  • Excellent communication skills for patient education and team collaboration.
  • CPR/BLS certification (or ability to obtain).
  • Must successfully pass a comprehensive background check, drug screening, and maintain security clearance for jail facility access.
  • Willingness to work flexible shifts, including some evenings or weekends if needed.

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • Bilingual proficiency (Spanish/English) for patient communication.

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: $120.00 - $122.00 per hour
