Education – A DDS or DMD from a dental school accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation and a certificate from an accredited General Practice Residency program. Or, a DDS or DMD from a dental school accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation.
Experience – Three (3) years of relevant experience is recommended.
Licenses & Certification –Licensure or ability to be licensed to practice dentistry in the state of Oklahoma by the Oklahoma Board of Dentistry.
Knowledge of pertinent rules, standards, regulations, policies and procedures governing the dental health care industry.
Knowledge of standards of care concerning routine and complex dental conditions including diagnostic therapeutic and preventive dental techniques and protocols.
Knowledge of standard and moderately complex clinical dental practice skills.
Skill and ability to provide effective supervision, training and leadership of dental staff in order to meet the goals and objectives of the Health System.
Ability to communicate effectively with patients, dental and medical staff, administrative staff, health care professionals and the general public both orally and in writing and on an individual and group basis.
The purpose of this position is to provide dental health services to the designated population of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation in accordance with Muscogee (Creek) Nation Department of Health policies and procedures. Incumbent is responsible for the supervision and management of dental clinic staff and daily operations of the dental clinic as assigned by the Dental Director. This is an exempt position as applicable to the provisions of the FLSA.
Work is performed in office and clinical health care settings. Work involves exposure to communicable diseases, radiation, flying debris, nitrous oxide gas, toxic fumes from dental laboratory materials, blue light emissions from dental light curing units, and exposure to aerosol emissions from the oral cavity. Therefore, masks, surgical gloves, lead aprons and protective eyewear are frequently needed.
Works in a health care setting which requires considerable travel and walking within health care facilities, and long periods of moving about the work unit. Work requires regular and recurring bending, stooping, stretching, and lifting of patients or similar activities.
Satisfactory job performance will be determined by successful execution of the following:
Reviews patient's medical chart for evidence of disease or abnormalities, which could be adversely affected by dental treatment and takes necessary precautions to ensure safe and effective treatment.
Performs oral examinations to include inspection of hard and soft tissues of the oral cavity and ensures that results of exam are properly recorded in patient's chart.
Diagnoses pathological or irregular conditions. Develops patient treatment plans and ensures proper referral of patients for necessary medical evaluation or specialty care if beyond the scope of general dental practice; insures that patients understands the proposed treatment plan.
Requests required dental radiographs and performs radiographic interpretation and administers local anesthesia.
Performs restoration of simple and complex cavities with standard and prescribed material (amalgam, composite resins, etc.)
Provide all appropriate dental disease prevention measures for each patient treated.
Performs single and relatively uncomplicated multiple extractions of teeth, as well as removing unerupted an impacted teeth and residual root tips.
Removes localized foreign bodies from the gingival tissues and alveolar sockets and performs uncomplicated root canal therapy.
Performs routine periodontal procedures, such as scaling, root planning and subgingival curettage, as well as performing some mucogingival surgery.
Participates in development and maintenance of public relations with other health disciplines and tribal health groups, as well as the community.
Participates in program development, implementation, and evaluations at facility.
Participates in development and maintenance of public relations with other health disciplines and tribal health groups, as well as the community.
Provides dental services of a scope, quality and quantity consistent with MCNDH, IHS and PHS policies.
Regular attendance is required.
Performs other duties as required.
