The NATIVE Project – Spokane, WA
Department: Dental Clinic
Status: Temporary / As Needed

The NATIVE Project is seeking a Dentist (Locum Tenens) to provide high-quality dental care on an as-needed basis to help cover our primary dentist during vacations, extended leave, or other scheduled absences. This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated dental professional who enjoys flexible work, values culturally responsive care, and wants to serve a diverse patient population in a community-focused clinic.

About The NATIVE Project

The NATIVE Project is a nonprofit community health center dedicated to providing culturally appropriate, holistic healthcare to Native and Non-Native individuals and families in the Spokane region. We offer integrated medical, dental, behavioral health, pharmacy, and wellness services in a collaborative, team-based environment.

Position Overview

The Locum Tenens Dentist will deliver comprehensive dental services—including exams, restorative procedures, preventive care, and patient education—to children, adolescents, adults, and elders. This temporary coverage role supports continuity of care and ensures our clinic remains fully operational during provider leave periods.

Assignments will vary in length depending on clinical need, typically ranging from single-day coverage to multi-week coverage blocks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide general dental care including exams, cleanings, and restorations.
  • Work collaboratively with dental assistant, hygienist, and clinic support staff.
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic dental record.
  • Deliver culturally competent, patient-centered care aligned with The NATIVE Project’s values and standards.
  • Follow all clinical protocols, infection control practices, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Prescribe medications as appropriate and coordinate referrals for specialty dental services.
  • Ensure continuity of care during the primary dentist’s leave periods.

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) required.
  • Current Washington State Dental License in good standing.
  • DEA registration (or ability to obtain).
  • CPR/BLS certification.
  • Experience working in community health, tribal health, or underserved populations preferred.
  • Strong communication skills and a commitment to culturally respectful care.

Schedule & Compensation

  • As-needed/temporary based on clinic coverage needs.
  • Competitive locum tenens daily or hourly rate of $110.00 per hour.
  • Malpractice coverage provided under Federal Tort Claims Act (FTCA) while performing duties within the scope of employment.
