JOB SUMMARY:

The Dentist provides professional, high-quality dental treatment and education to a broad range of patients. Under the general direction and approval of the Dental Director, the Dentist also assists the Dental Director by overseeing clinical operations of the Center including patient care, supervision of clinical staff, compliance with regulatory agencies/requirements (eg, OSHA, DPH, JCAHO), development and implementation of policies and procedures governing all aspects of clinical operations, infection control, quality assurance, equipment maintenance, patient complaints and incident reporting.


JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Dental Care

  • Provides hands-on dental care in a variety of settings while achieving the highest levels of appropriateness, quality, efficiency, accessibility and responsiveness.
    a. Maintains full appointment schedule for office practice and other settings
    b. Meets patient needs as they arise
    c. Utilizes state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment techniques and delegates and refers care as appropriate
    d. Maintains necessary credentialing, licensure and continuing education requirements
    e. Provides a full range of general dental services within the dentist’s defined scope of training
    f. Treats patients of all ages with an interest and comfortable with seeing children in the clinic setting and dental van
  • In collaboration with the other dentists, and with delegation and approval by the Director, provides assistance with clinical leadership of dental program.
    a. Supervise clinical staff
    b. Ensure clinic’s compliance with all regulatory requirements (eg, OSHA, DPH,JCAHO)
    c. Develop, implement and maintain dental policies and procedures related to clinicaloperations
    d. Oversee the clinic’s quality assurance program
    e. Oversee the clinic’s infection control program
    f. Oversee protocols for the maintenance of all clinical equipment
    g. As requested, develop, implement and maintain clinical protocols for the delivery of patient care services

h. Implements protocols for the management and resolution of patient complaints
i. Engages with the Center system used to report and resolve incidents within the dental program
j. In collaboration with the dental team, determines the dental products to be used in the clinic


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES


Knowledge of:

  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of modern dentistry and oral surgery.
  • Thorough knowledge of dental terminology and dental science.
  • Thorough understanding of the theories, methods and procedures for the prevention of dental diseases and the required corrective treatment.
  • Knowledge of community-based dental environment.
  • Knowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of dental evaluations, diagnosis and treatment.
  • Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.
  • Knowledge of ethical and legal standards for the delivery of dental care.
  • Knowledge of relevant drugs and non-pharmaceutical patient care aides and ability to prescribe dosage and instruct patients in correct usage.

  • Ability to observe, assess and record symptoms, reactions and progress.
  • Ability to develop and implement individualized dental care plans for patients.
  • Effectively work with patients including children, building rapport and ease during treatment.

QUALIFICATIONS


Experience: 1 year minimum experience in a dental practice; experience in a FQHC dental practice desired.


Education and Licensing Requirements:

  • DDS or DMD degree from an accredited USA college or university with major coursework in general dentistry
  • Current active and unencumbered licensure in the state of California
  • No professional disciplinary actions
  • Valid DEA license to prescribe narcotics
  • Current CPR/AED certification
  • Meeting CEU standards and licensure requirements, as required by the Board of Dentistry

OTHER


Physical Requirements:

  • Work involves considerable exposure to unusual elements such as extreme temperatures, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises
  • Moderate physical activity. Requires handling average-weight objects up to 15-20pounds, assisting with patients and standing and/or walking for most the day
  • Will work with blood or blood-borne pathogens and will require OSHA training
  • Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment
