Job Summary: The major responsibility of the Chair of the nursing program is to provide administrative management and leadership to the nursing program. The nursing program chair reports to the Dean of the School of Nursing. Management and leadership include recruitment of full and part-time faculty, scheduling courses, scheduling faculty for didactic and clinical courses, and scheduling classrooms. The Chair also has oversight of the admission of students to the professional component of the nursing curriculum, as well as the progression of students through the program. The Chair will also manage the curriculum, and policies/ procedures of the nursing program.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Supports the philosophy and mission of the University
- Supports the philosophy and mission of the nursing program.
- Uphold the policies of the School of Nursing.
- Assign faculty to didactic and clinical courses.
- Schedule courses.
- Schedule classrooms.
- Has oversight of the computer, simulation, and skills labs.
- Has oversight of admission process.
- Has oversight of standardized testing.
- Has oversight of program data and reports.
- Collaborate with the Dean in the preparation of performance evaluations of nursing faculty.
- Has oversight of the evaluation process for instruction.
- Assesses clinical facility placement needs for appropriateness in the meeting end of program student learning outcomes and course learning outcomes.
- Coordinates clinical placements.
- In conjunction with the Dean, has oversight of the Nursing Advisory Committee.
- Serves on School of Nursing Committees.
- Has oversight of Nursing pinning ceremony.
- Chairs the Nurse Faculty Committee.
- Serves on other committees as designated by the Dean.
- Monitor the curriculum and recommend changes/revisions.
- Participate in development and implementation of policies and procedures that impact students and faculty.
- Supervise recordkeeping practices and procedures for the program.
- Provide reports and data to the Institution as needed.
- Serve on University Committees as assignment.
- Participate in professional and community activities for the improvement of health equity.
- Assist with student recruitment and marketing.
- Attend University sponsored events.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of the accreditation process (ACEN, Florida Board of Nursing)
- Knowledge and prior use of ATI products (Assessment Technologies Institute LLC).
- Knowledge of the rules and regulations governing the practice of registered nursing.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Education and Experience:
- Unencumbered license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Florida
- Earned Doctorate degree in Nursing or related field.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing; Master of Science in Nursing.
- 5 years’ experience related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
- 5 years in experience in a nursing academia leadership /management role.
Physical Requirements:
- Working environment is a normal business office setting.
- Demands normal manual dexterity and visual and auditory acuity.
- Must be mobile throughout the campus.
- Typically, the incumbent may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, or carrying of light items.
