Distinguishing Features of Work

The Human Resources Intern provides support to the Human Resources Department with a primary focus on serving as back-up for the front reception desk, assisting with new hire orientation, and maintaining employee personnel records. This part-time, paid internship offers valuable hands-on experience in HR operations and administrative functions within a professional workplace setting.

The Human Resources office is seeking an experienced professional who is looking for part-time work to earn extra income and/or something to fill part of their day. We are seeking a strong office background with excellent customer service and very organized.

Exposure to HR

By the conclusion of the internship, the intern will provide administrative support and will gain exposure in:

  • HR administrative processes and compliance requirements.
  • Onboarding and orientation practices.
  • Personnel file management and recordkeeping.
  • Professional customer service and reception operations.

Works Days and Hours - Monday - Friday - 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM

This is a limited, part-time position. The position is not eligible for benefits and has a duration of up to 12 months with a possibility for extension.

Examples of Work Performed

  • Provide back-up coverage for the front reception desk, including greeting visitors, answering phones, and directing inquiries.
  • Provide excellent customer service to all visitors to Human Resources in-person, by phone, or through virtual meetings.
  • Assist in preparing, coordinating, and assisting with new hire orientation process.
  • Maintain employee personnel records in both electronic and paper formats, ensuring accuracy and compliance with policies and regulations.
  • Support HR staff with filing, scanning, data entry, and document preparation.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive HR-related information and records.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements of Work

  • Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with professionalism.
  • Customer service–oriented, with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • An employee shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.

Experience and Training

Required Experience and Training

  • Two (2) years of experience in a professional office setting.
  • Experience with NEOGOV Applicant Tracking System.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need of a sponsorship.
  • Attainment of passing scores on pre-employment tests.

Preferred Experience and Training

  • Experience in Human Resources.
  • Experience with Laserfiche.
  • Experience working in Government or municipal setting
