DEPARTMENT MANAGER OF DUE DILIGENCE

This is a fantastic opportunity for Senior Environmental Professional ready to lead a fast-growing Phase I & II Environmental Site Assessment team. This is an immediate hire position for an energetic person looking to lead a dynamic, professional due diligence group in New York City. This is an on-site role with limited work from home opportunities.

The candidate must possess a solid educational background, be self-motivated and demonstrate the ability to communicate with clients, mentor junior staff, manage an active workload, proposal preparation and work with business development professionals to develop new clients and lines of business. The candidate must demonstrate effective communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills. The successful candidate will have at least 5 – 10 years of experience managing environmental projects, including Phase I and Phase II investigations, remediation oversight. ALC has several ongoing projects involving remediation design, CAMP monitoring, ground-water monitoring, vapor intrusion, UST closures, and more.

The successful candidate will work in a professional office setting, alongside seasoned professionals in many areas of environmental consulting. The EHS Team includes specialists in Phase I ESA’s, Phase II investigations, indoor air quality, mold assessments, industrial hygiene, occupational safety, training, cooling tower management, and other related fields. The successful candidate’s leadership will encourage a young team to grow into effective professionals and scientists.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversight of Phase I ESA: Directing the initial assessment, which includes historical research, site inspections, and public record reviews to identify potential environmental concerns (PECs) or recognized environmental conditions (RECs).
  • Managing Phase II ESA Decisions: Based on Phase I findings, deciding whether to conduct a Phase II ESA to investigate the presence and extent of contamination through sampling.
  • Project Management: Managing various simultaneous due diligence projects, including the procurement of third-party consultants and reports, and tracking project progress.
  • Risk Analysis & Reporting: Analyzing findings, assessing potential environmental, regulatory, financial, and health risks, and preparing clear, comprehensive reports.
  • Client Communication: Communicating status updates and presenting findings and recommendations to clients and other stakeholders to support their decision-making.
  • Team Leadership: Leading and guiding teams of environmental professionals, such as licensed geologists or engineers, to ensure accurate and thorough investigations.

Tasks:

  • Contacting regulatory and municipal agencies and subcontractors/vendors to coordinate field activities and obtain project-related information.
  • Communicating effectively and efficiently with contractors, clients, and team members.
  • Subcontractor oversight.
  • Oversight of drilling operations, including soil characterization and installation of monitoring wells or temporary wells.
  • Soil, groundwater, and air sampling in compliance with State and Federal standards.
  • Conducting site inspections and project-related research (historical data, regulations, etc.).
  • Leading and mentoring junior staff to:
  • Conduct investigations in accordance with applicable standards and procedures.
  • Evaluate field and laboratory data.
  • Data management and compilation.
  • Write and effectively communicate technical reports and other documentation figure/map/boring log production.
  • Preparation of work plans, letters, and memoranda.
  • Performing Industrial Hygiene surveys.
  • Training and leading teammates.
  • Being the subject matter expert for your areas of responsibility.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Masters Preferred) in Civil/Environmental or Chemical Engineering, Geology, Environmental/Public Health, or Environmental Science.
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible management (Project and Teams).
  • Experience with Phase I and Phase II environmental site assessments using the Quire platform.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical capabilities.
  • Knowledge of soil characterization and groundwater sampling techniques.
  • Knowledge of Construction Site Safety.
  • The candidate must be proficient with MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint, to prepare technical reports and spreadsheet data entry
  • 40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification.
  • 30-Hour OSHA Health and Safety Card.
  • A valid driver’s license in good standing is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical capabilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Very good organizational skills.
  • The candidate must also be able to meet the physical demands associated with performing field work, including lifting heavy equipment, working in a standing position for extended periods, etc.

Expected Compensation Range: $100K to $130K per year depending on qualifications and experience Workstation: NYC ALC Office (limited remote work)
