Deputy General Counsel

About TurboVets

TurboVets is a fast-scaling, mission-driven organization operating in a complex and evolving regulatory and commercial landscape. As we grow, so do the stakes. The Legal Department plays a central role in safeguarding the company’s operational integrity, guiding strategic decisions, enforcing accountability, protecting intellectual property, and protecting the company from external threats.

We are seeking a Deputy General Counsel who brings deep litigation strength, operational rigor, and a high-performance mindset—someone energized by protecting an institution they believe in and who thrives in environments where speed, precision, and assertiveness matter.

This is a unique opportunity to join the company at an inflection point and help build a world-class legal function that supports TurboVets’ long-term scale.

Role Summary

The Deputy General Counsel will serve as TurboVets’ primary litigation lead and a core strategic legal operator based in Dallas, Texas. This attorney will fully own all litigation matters from start to finish, manage escalated disputes, oversee intellectual property strategy and filings, and handle NDAs and other critical legal documents.

The ideal candidate brings a proactive mindset, operates as a minesweeper, and acts as a force multiplier for the CLO, outside counsel, and the CEO by absorbing day-to-day legal demands while strengthening the company’s overall legal posture.

We are seeking a hands-on litigator who is both aggressive and strategic—an advocate who plans several moves ahead, stays composed under pressure, and is genuinely motivated to hold bad actors accountable. The role requires someone detail-oriented, highly productive, and capable of delivering high-quality work with minimal oversight.

This is an operator role within an operator environment. Success requires self-awareness, direct communication, humility, and a commitment to continuous personal and professional growth.

Key Responsibilities

Litigation Leadership

  • Lead all day-to-day litigation activities, including drafting complaints, motions, briefs, subpoenas, and correspondence.
  • Manage filings, service, deadlines, discovery, and case strategy with minimal oversight, coordinating with outside legal counsel as required.
  • Act as point counsel for disputes, demand letters, pre-litigation claims, escalations, and adversarial matters.
  • Execute both offensive and defensive litigation strategies proactively, including pursuing claims against parties that have harmed the company.
  • Conduct and manage internal investigations, evidence preservation, and fact development.

Strategic Legal Operations

  • Anticipate legal, regulatory, and business risks; develop proactive strategies to minimize exposure.
  • Contribute to long-term legal frameworks, deterrence structures, and enforcement posture.
  • Help standardize internal legal processes, documentation, and workflows across departments.
  • Support the CLO and CEO on high-priority strategic matters while independently managing operational legal work.

Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Collaborate closely with internal teams to explain complex issues in clear, actionable terms.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor capable of balancing legal risk with business objectives.
  • Build and maintain relationships with external counsel in Texas and other key jurisdictions.

Leadership, Culture & Integrity

  • Operate with loyalty, professionalism, and alignment to TurboVets’ mission and culture.
  • Demonstrate high integrity, emotional resilience, and strong judgment in high-pressure, adversarial, or fast-moving environments.
  • Protect the company as if it were your own—driven, accountable, and deeply invested in outcomes.

Required Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school; strong academic record preferred.
  • Active admission to the Texas Bar required.
  • UBE score strongly preferred to facilitate multi-state admissions as the company scales.
  • 6–12+ years of litigation experience, with a focus on business, commercial, complex civil, or regulatory disputes.
  • Demonstrated success in high-stakes litigation and motion practice.
  • Exceptional legal writing skills—precise, fast, and strategically persuasive.
  • Strong use of A.I. tools and the ability to draft, advise, and mentor efficiently.
  • Experience drafting complaints, dispositive motions, briefs, discovery responses, and correspondence.
  • Highly organized with strong time management, proactive communication, and planning discipline.
  • Strong operational capability with an ownership mindset and ability to drive cases forward independently.
  • Level-headed, collaborative, and comfortable operating in a high-speed environment.
  • Willingness to support and lead cross-functional initiatives when needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with both plaintiff-side and defense-side litigation.
  • Background in investigations, enforcement actions, or regulatory matters.
  • Experience advising high-growth companies or working inside a lean legal department.
  • Exposure to government affairs, regulatory strategy, or lobbying.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, demanding, and mission-driven environment.

  • Assertive when necessary and not intimidated by conflict.
  • Strategic thinker capable of multi-move planning.
