A Quantity Surveyor manages all aspects of the contractual and financial side of construction projects. Their goal is to ensure projects are completed within budget and in compliance with legal and quality standards.

Typical Responsibilities:

  • Preparing cost estimates and budgets for construction projects.
  • Tendering and managing contracts with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Performing cost control and value engineering during project execution.
  • Measuring and quantifying materials and work (Bill of Quantities).
  • Managing payments, valuations, and interim certificates.
  • Advising on procurement strategy.
  • Risk management and dispute resolution.
  • Final accounts preparation and settlement.


    Key Skills
    :

    • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
    • Understanding of construction methods and contracts (e.g., FIDIC, NEC, JCT).
    • Attention to detail and accuracy in costings.
    • Negotiation and communication skills.
    • IT proficiency, including Excel, AutoCAD, and QS software (e.g., CostX, Candy).
    • Knowledge of building regulations and legal guidelines.
