Deputy Manager - Deputy Manager (Waste Management)

Scope of Work

Project Implementation

• Lead implementation of solid waste management initiatives across project locations, with a focus on scalable, community-centric models.
• Drive on-ground activation for waste reduction, decentralised waste processing, and resource-efficient practices in urban and peri-urban settlements.
• Coordinate with project teams to ensure timely delivery of field activities, partner engagements, and demonstrations.

Technical Support & Systems Strengthening

• Design & conduct waste audits, baseline assessments, and value chain mapping to inform project design and improvements.
• Support municipalities and panchayats in developing or strengthening SWM systems
• Provide technical guidance on planning, operating, and monitoring solid waste management systems.

Community Awareness & Capacity Building programmes

• Design and facilitate community awareness programmes & behaviour-change interventions, and monitor their effectiveness
• Lead training and capacity-building for waste management workers and other community stakeholders.

Monitoring, Evaluation & Documentation

• Design monitoring frameworks and track project outcomes; analyse data to generate insights and course-correct strategies.
• Prepare technical documentation, including reports, SOPs, case studies, training material, and process guidelines.
• Contribute to proposals, concept notes, and knowledge products to support scaling and replication.

Requirements

Must-Have

• 3+ years of professional experience in solid waste management, sustainability, or related community-focused environmental programmes.
• Strong grounding in decentralised waste systems, circular economy concepts, and inclusive community-based models.
• Demonstrated ability to lead field operations and work effectively with diverse stakeholders
• Excellent facilitation, communication, and documentation skills.
• Willingness to travel to project sites frequently and manage multi-site assignments.

Preferred Experience

• working with urban local bodies, panchayats, and state-level agencies on SWM reforms or compliance.
• Exposure to behaviour-change methodologies, participatory rural/urban appraisal, and social research tools.
