Deputy Medical Director

The Deputy Medical Director / Medical Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the clinical operations, medical governance, regulatory compliance, and quality standards of the hospital. The role ensures delivery of safe, ethical, and high-quality patient care across cardiac and general medical services while maintaining operational efficiency and compliance with healthcare regulations.This position acts as a bridge between hospital administration and medical staff and plays a critical leadership role in ensuring clinical excellence, patient safety, and adherence to national healthcare standards.Key Responsibilities1. Clinical Governance & Quality Assurance

  • Oversee clinical services to ensure adherence to evidence-based medical practices.
  • Implement and monitor clinical protocols, SOPs, and treatment guidelines.
  • Lead morbidity & mortality meetings and clinical audit processes.
  • Ensure compliance with PMDC/PMC (or relevant authority), healthcare commission standards, and accreditation requirements.
  • Monitor infection control practices and patient safety standards.
  • Review adverse events and ensure corrective action plans are implemented.

2. Medical Staff Supervision & Coordination

  • Supervise consultants, medical officers, RMOs, and nursing coordination in collaboration with Nursing Leadership.
  • Participate in recruitment, credentialing, privileging, and performance evaluation of medical staff.
  • Ensure proper duty rosters and on-call coverage.
  • Address clinical conflicts and resolve interdepartmental issues.
  • Promote a culture of professionalism, teamwork, and ethical conduct.

3. Hospital Operations Oversight

  • Oversee daily hospital operations including IPD, OPD, Emergency, ICU, Cath Lab, OT, and diagnostic services.
  • Ensure efficient patient flow and bed management.
  • Coordinate with support services (Pharmacy, Laboratory, Radiology, Biomedical, etc.).
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as occupancy rate, average length of stay, infection rates, mortality rates, etc.

4. Cardiac Services Oversight

  • Ensure quality and safety of cardiac procedures including Cath Lab operations, cardiac surgery, and ICU management.
  • Monitor compliance with cardiac care protocols and emergency response standards.
  • Review outcomes and performance metrics specific to cardiac care.

5. Regulatory & Legal Compliance

  • Ensure hospital compliance with local health authority regulations.
  • Handle medico-legal cases and coordinate documentation.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of medical records and documentation standards.
  • Represent hospital during inspections and audits.

6. Strategic & Administrative Support

  • Assist Medical Director/CEO in strategic planning and service expansion.
  • Contribute to budgeting and cost-control initiatives related to clinical services.
  • Support development of new specialties and service lines.
  • Participate in hospital management meetings and board reporting.

7. Patient Experience & Risk Management

  • Monitor patient complaints related to clinical services and ensure timely resolution.
  • Implement patient safety initiatives and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Lead disaster preparedness and emergency response planning.

Qualifications & ExperienceEducation:

  • MBBS (Mandatory)
  • Postgraduate qualification preferred (FCPS / MD / MS / MHA / MPH or equivalent)

Experience:

  • Minimum 8–12 years of clinical experience
  • At least 3–5 years in hospital administration or leadership role
  • Experience in cardiac hospital setting preferred

Licensure:

  • Valid PMDC/PMC registration (or relevant regulatory body)
