Job Title: Deputy Principal, High School

Job Overview: The Deputy Principal, High school is responsible for the overall functioning of the High school. This includes supervising the academic program and ensuring strong student outcomes by working with the domain experts, instructional coach and teachers. The DP is also in charge of ensuring that the focus areas, various events that are conducted through the year and the activities conducted by the co-curricular departments contribute to the holistic development of the students.

Main Roles & Responsibilities:

1. Strategy, Goal setting & Implementation:

  • Participates in developing whole school yearly priorities and implementation plans for the same [academic & non-academic] along with the Principal and Head of Academics.
  • Creates section level strategy, focus areas and implementation plans linked to the above along with having clear milestones and M&E mechanisms.
  • Drives and monitors progress of the above for their section and course corrects as required.
  • Works with the Instructional Coach [IC] and Domain Experts [DEs] to review DE and department level strategies and goals.
  • Works with the co-curricular teachers linked to their section to create goals and plans related to their domains.

2. Teacher Training:

  • Creates whole school trainings along with the Principal and Instructional Coach for the induction of new teachers, beginning of year [BOY] sessions & end of year [EOY] sessions.
  • Supports the Instructional Coach and Domain Experts in creating:
  • Whole school instructional trainings based on the needs of the school.
  • Subject specific trainings based on the grade & subject requirements.
  • Tracks and monitor the implementation of learnings from the trainings along with the DEs and IC.
  • Creates any section specific non-academic trainings, as required.

3. Curriculum and Instructional Resources:

  • Reviews curriculums of all subjects in their section [along with the DE, IC and Principal]
  • Ensures scaffolding of curriculum across grades in their section based on learning standards, board requirement and needs of the school.
  • Monitors implementation of the curriculum implemented by DEs by ensuring that their weekly plans & instructional material are aligned to curriculum and are of an appropriate standard.
  • Does periodic reviews with DEs to monitor curriculum implementation of their department teachers / directly monitors implementation of curriculum that does not have DEs.
  • Conducts doing periodic notebook reviews and random weekly plan reviews of department teachers and discusses trends with the DEs and the IC to make necessary adjustments.
  • Gathers and analyses student engagement and achievement data along with the DE and IC to suggest necessary improvements in the curriculum.

4. Domain Expert & Teacher development:

  • Conducts classroom observations of DEs monthly and facilitates the necessary upskilling.
  • Reviews effectiveness of DEs in terms of their core role [including lesson observations, notebook reviews, assessment reviews etc.] and creates a growth plan for them along with the IC.
  • Facilitates appraisal discussion of all DEs who report to them and will involve the IC to share feedback on aspects linked to the DE’s core role.
  • Conducts periodic learning walks of teachers and shares trends and observations with the DE & IC.
  • Conducts classroom observations of teachers on a rotational basis and shares feedback with the teacher post consultation with the DE.
  • Identifies and works with teachers who need support in behaviour management, setting a positive classroom culture etc.
  • Conducts learning walks and classroom observations of the co-curricular and other P&S staff and shares feedback.
  • Facilitates appraisal discussion of all teachers who report to them and will involve the IC and DE in scoring and feedback wherever applicable.

5. Assessments and Analysis:

  • Reviews the Formative Assessment [FA] and Summative Assessment [SA] papers for all subjects to ensure that the standard of assessments are consistent across the section.
  • Ensures that the FA and SA scores are updated on the school’s SharePoint and MIS as per the assessment timelines.
  • Analyses FA & SA data along with DEs, IC and teachers to identify strengths, areas of development and comes up with clear next steps.
  • Monitors and evaluates implementation of next steps along with the DE.
  • Manages any operational aspects related to administering SA assessments, as required.

6. School Culture:

  • Role models and actively works on staff culture in their section to foster a positive and inclusive school culture which is rooted in the organisation values.
  • Drives, monitors and evaluates aspects linked to the student values in focus and actively ensures that teachers support students towards inculcating all student values.
  • Manages medium and high-level escalations in terms of student disciplinary issues.
  • Manages teacher related expectations linked to core work, professionalism, work ethics, leave taking etc. as per the need.
  • Other Important tasks:
  • Handles all board exam related tasks, if applicable
  • Participates in the student selection process at the required stage / for backfill, if applicable
  • Supports teachers with on-going communication with parents routed through SSD as per school procedures.
  • Tracks student and teacher attendance in their section, approves leaves and other teacher / student requests.
  • Facilitates the teacher selection process as per the guidelines set down for the school.
  • Assists with the planning and management of text books and equipment for their section on consultation with the Principal and the admin manager.
  • Plans the section’s annual budget and works with the finance and fund-raising team, as required.
  • Collaborate with the deputy principals of primary and high school to ensure that there is linkage between learning across all segments
  • Performs or assists with non-teaching administrative duties, such as conducting whole school and section meetings, timetabling etc. along with the Principal
  • Leads various meetings with the IC, programs and service staff etc. as required.
  • Creates various reports and plans as required by the school and network team.
  • Contributes to the development of systems and structures to improve the overall functioning of their section / school.
  • Undertakes additional tasks as assigned by the Principal and Head of Academics to support the overall functioning of the school.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education
  • Certification related to educational leadership preferred
  • Prior experience in teaching middle school students
  • Prior experience in leading events, coaching and mentoring teachers preferred
  • Strong understanding of teaching & learning + holistic student and adult development
  • Excellent 21 century skills and leadership skills
  • Adept in using Microsoft Office
  • Commitment to promoting a positive learning environment and achieving academic and holistic excellence

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: ₹70,000.00 - ₹80,000.00 per month
