Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented MBS Design and Costing Engineer to design and estimate pre-engineered steel buildings (PEBs) using Metal Building Software (MBS). This role demands a solid foundation in structural engineering, familiarity with building codes, and the ability to deliver cost-effective solutions tailored to client needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Use Metal Building Software (MBS) to create detailed models and designs of pre-engineered buildings.
• Perform structural analysis and load calculations, including wind, seismic, and other forces, to ensure compliance with safety standards.
• Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates, accounting for materials, labor, and project-specific expenses.
• Collaborate with architects, contractors, sales teams, and clients to align designs with project requirements and timelines.
• Review and interpret architectural and engineering drawings, integrating design details into MBS models.
• Ensure compliance with building codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., AISC, ASCE, NBC).
• Stay updated on advancements in PEB systems, materials, and industry practices to provide innovative design solutions.
• Provide technical support and guidance to internal teams and clients.
• Finalize cost estimates for submissions, ensuring high-quality, efficient, and cost-effective project solutions.
• Coordinate design completion upon project award.
• Liaise with building manufacturers to manage drawing requests, revisions, and approvals.
• Offer phone support to customers regarding building designs.
• Work with external engineers, in-house managers, estimators, and sales teams on design-build project estimates.
• Review and approve preliminary designs, including detailed scope lists and assumptions for secondary components.

QualificationsEducation

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related field (specialization in structural engineering preferred).

Experience

• Minimum of 2 years in structural design or experience working with PEB systems.
• Proficiency in MBS is highly desirable.

Software Skills

• Proficiency in design tools such as MBS, AutoCAD, STAAD Pro, Tekla Structures, or similar structural design software.

Knowledge

• Strong understanding of structural analysis and design principles.
• Familiarity with steel grades, materials, and industry standards (e.g., ASTM, CSA, NBC codes).
• Working knowledge of building codes and compliance requirements.

Skills

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Exceptional attention to detail, ensuring precise designs and cost estimates.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certifications in structural or steel building design.
• Project management certification (e.g., PMP) is a plus.
• Knowledge of LEED or sustainable building practices.
