Design Assistant - Design-Build Firm

Job Overview
Join a dynamic design-build firm as a Design Assistant, where your creativity and technical skills will help shape innovative interior and exterior spaces. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to collaborate with experienced designers, architects, and project managers on a variety of renovation, remodeling, and lighting projects. You will play a vital role in translating client visions into compelling visual presentations and detailed construction documents, supporting the seamless execution of projects from concept to completion. Duties

  • Assist in creating detailed design concepts using software such as SketchUp, Revit, AutoCAD, Rhinoceros 3D, and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Prepare presentation materials including mood boards, color schemes based on color theory, and lighting plans to communicate design ideas effectively.
  • Support drafting and technical documentation for construction drawings, interior layouts, and remodeling plans.
  • Collaborate with project managers to develop accurate budgets and timelines for design-build projects.
  • Contribute to site visits by documenting conditions through photography and notes; support renovation and remodeling processes.
  • Assist in client meetings by preparing visual aids and presentations that showcase design proposals.
  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors on lighting sales, specifications, and installation details to ensure project requirements are met.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in SketchUp, AutoCAD, Revit, Rhinoceros 3D, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Creative Suite, and Bluebeam is highly desirable.
  • Strong drafting skills with an understanding of CAD standards and construction documentation (Not Required)
  • Knowledge of Google Drive and Workspace will be of everyday use, proficiency will be key.
  • Knowledge of interior design principles, color theory, lighting design, and remodeling processes.
  • Experience or interest in project management tasks such as budgeting, scheduling, and contract review.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members and clients.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • A background or coursework in interior design or architecture is preferred; relevant internships are welcome.
