Kibler & Kirch — Design Assistant (Interior Design Studio)
Location: Billings, Montana (in-studio only)
Type: Full-time preferred
Reports to: Jeremiah Young, Principal / Creative Director
Start: As soon as we find the right person
About Kibler & Kirch:
Kibler & Kirch is an interior design studio rooted in heritage, craft, and story. Our work blends the refinement of classic architecture with the lived-in character of a home that evolves over time—layered, collected, and deeply personal. We design with a point of view: warm, tailored, and honest.
We’re adding to our small, highly collaborative team. This role is for someone who wants to be close to the creative process, contribute meaningfully every day, and grow into real responsibility.
The Role:
As a Design Assistant, you’ll work closely with Jeremiah and the team to move projects forward—from early concept through install. You’ll support design development, presentations, sourcing, and project coordination. You’ll be trusted with details, encouraged to think, and expected to communicate clearly.
This is a team-oriented environment: we share progress, solve problems together, and protect momentum. If you love design and you love making things happen, you’ll fit right in.
What You’ll Do:
Design + Creative Support
- Assist with concept development: mood boards, finishes direction, furniture plans, styling notes
- Help assemble client presentations (visual layouts, narratives, selections, and specifications)
- Support space planning and basic drawing sets (depending on skill level)
- Contribute to styling, install preparation, and execution: accessories, art placement plans, and punch lists
CAD / 3D Support (Highly Valued but not Imperative)
- Assist with CAD drafting and/or SketchUp modeling for plans, elevations, and design communication
- Help translate concepts into clear visuals the team can use to make decisions and execute work well
- Maintain drawing/model organization and coordinate updates as designs evolve
Sourcing + Procurement
- Research, source, and track furniture, lighting, textiles, and materials aligned with the studio’s aesthetic
- Request quotes, lead times, samples, and shipping information
- Organize sample libraries and keep selections labeled, current, and easy to reference
- Support purchase orders, order tracking, and receiving coordination (attention to detail is huge here)
Project Coordination
- Create and maintain spec sheets and selection logs
- Take notes in internal project meetings and convert them into action steps
- Coordinate with vendors, workrooms, and trades with professionalism and follow-through
- Help maintain orderly project folders and documentation so nothing gets lost
Studio + Team Support
- Help keep the studio running smoothly: organization, timelines, and “what’s next”
- Show up with solutions, not just questions—while still asking great questions when needed
- Participate in a culture that values craftsmanship, kindness, humor, and high standards
What We’re Looking For:
Must-Haves
- Strong visual instincts and a genuine love of interiors (historical and contemporary)
- Excellent organization: you can manage details without losing the big picture
- Clear written and verbal communication
- Comfortable juggling multiple projects and shifting priorities without spiraling
- A “team-first” mindset: you care about the work and the people doing it
- Taste and restraint: you know when to edit and when to layer
- Proficiency in common creative and productivity tools (presentations, spreadsheets, image layout)
Strong Plus / Preferred
- CAD and/or SketchUp skills (or strong willingness to learn quickly with practice and feedback)
- Experience in an interior design studio, architecture office, or high-touch showroom environment
- Familiarity with drawing documentation, construction coordination, and trade purchasing
- Knowledge of antiques/vintage sourcing and an eye for patina and proportion
You Might Be a Great Fit If You…
- Get excited about the details: trim profiles, textiles, finish patina, historic silhouettes
- Love making order out of chaos (and keeping it that way)
- Can take direction, then run with it—without needing constant checking
- Care about beauty, but also care about getting it done
- Want to grow: more responsibility, more ownership, and eventually leading pieces of projects
What We Offer:
- A front-row seat to a distinctive design practice and a principal who is deeply hands-on
- Mentorship and skill-building across design, sourcing, CAD/SketchUp support, and project execution
- Paid time off + full benefits
- Generous employee purchasing privileges (seriously good access to the kind of pieces you actually want to live with)
