Design Engineer

Seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Design Engineer to join our Cooking Technology team. In this role, the engineer will be involved in product design with quality, reliability, and cost in mind. They will be responsible for identifying and executing cost reduction opportunities across the Cooking product portfolio manufactured at the GE Appliances facility in LaFayette, Georgia. In this role, the design engineer will collaborate cross-functionally with internal engineering teams, suppliers, and manufacturing teams to drive design changes that deliver measurable cost savings and product improvements.


How You'll Create Possibilities

  • Lead and support cost reduction projects from concept through implementation.
  • Analyze existing product designs to identify opportunities for value engineering, material substitution, or process optimization.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders (engineering, quality, safety, sourcing, and manufacturing) to ensure design changes meet all requirements.
  • Work with suppliers to explore alternative components, manufacturing methods, and cost-effective solutions.
  • Ensure all design changes comply with internal standards, regulatory (e.g. UL, CSA, and ANSI) requirements, and customer expectations.
  • Follow the product development and business change process and maintain design documentation.
  • Track and report project progress, cost savings, and risk mitigation plans to leadership.
  • Generate and submit intellectual property ideas.
  • Contribute to the development of best practices and continuous improvement initiatives within the team.


What You'll Bring to Our Team

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or related field).
  • 3 years of experience in design engineering.
  • Strong understanding of design for manufacturability and assembly (DFMA) principles.
  • Experience using CAD software and engineering analysis tools.
  • Experience working with suppliers and manufacturing teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
