Key Responsibilities
1. Design & Development
- Prepare conceptual and detailed designs for hot tapping fittings, line stopple fittings, and associated piping components.
- Develop new designs and modify existing ones based on operational, maintenance, or project requirements.
- Ensure all designs comply with applicable industry codes and standards (ASME, API, ISO, IBR, etc.).
- Perform strength, pressure, and stress calculations to validate design integrity.
- Select appropriate materials based on design requirements, operating conditions, and client specifications.
2. Cross-Department Coordination
- Collaborate with the production team to provide fabrication drawings, cutting templates, and manufacturing details.
- Support project, planning, and estimation teams with conceptual layouts, preliminary designs, and cost estimates for proposals/tenders.
- Provide on-floor technical support during fabrication and assembly.
- Coordinate with maintenance teams to understand operational challenges and develop design improvements.
3. Drawing & Documentation
- Create and maintain 2D/3D CAD models using AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, or similar tools.
- Prepare accurate Bills of Materials (BOM) and ensure correct specifications are shared with procurement.
- Maintain organized records of design data, drawings, calculations, and revision histories.
4. Continuous Improvement & R&D
- Research new materials, design methodologies, and fabrication techniques to enhance product performance.
- Benchmark designs against industry best practices to drive innovation and efficiency.
5. Fabrication & Inspection Support
- Provide technical support during fabrication, assembly, and inspection stages.
- Troubleshoot design-related issues during manufacturing or at project sites.
- Participate in design reviews with internal teams, clients, and third-party inspection agencies (TPIA).
- Attend site visits for measurements, fit-up checks, and installation supervision.
6. Compliance & Quality
- Ensure all designs meet relevant safety, quality, and performance standards.
- Adhere to company design procedures, document-control systems, and quality management protocols.
7. Additional Responsibilities
- Conduct research and benchmarking for design improvements.
- Stay updated on industry standards, tools, and technologies.
- Contribute to standardizing templates, procedures, and design guidelines.
- Perform additional engineering tasks assigned by management.
Qualifications & Skills
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
- 3–7 years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in piping components, pressure vessels, or the hot tapping industry.
