Design Engineer

Duties

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop comprehensive system designs and mechanical components using CAD software such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
• Conduct root cause analysis to troubleshoot design issues and optimize performance across projects.
• Create detailed schematics, technical drawings, and 3D models aligned with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) standards.
• Perform data collection and analysis through laboratory experiments, 3D scanning, and research activities to inform design improvements.
• Manage project schedules effectively by coordinating milestones from concept through prototype development and testing.
• Utilize programming languages such as Python, C++, MATLAB, and scripting to automate simulations, data analysis, and system controls involving programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
• Apply systems engineering principles to ensure seamless integration of mechanical design with electrical and software components in complex projects.
• Conduct manufacturing and construction feasibility assessments to ensure designs are practical for real-world implementation.
• Use data analysis skills to interpret test results, improve prototypes, and refine system performance.
• Prepare detailed documentation including schematics, technical reports, and laboratory records to support project validation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or higher degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Systems Engineering or related fields; advanced degrees are a plus.
• Proven experience with CAD tools such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD for mechanical design development.
• Strong understanding of GD&T standards for precise technical drawings.
• Familiarity with project management methodologies to oversee project scheduling from inception to completion.
• Hands-on laboratory experience with data collection techniques including 3D scanning and experimental testing.
• Proficiency in programming languages like Python, C++, MATLAB, along with scripting skills for automation tasks.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes, construction practices, and systems integration principles.
• Experience working with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) in automation or control systems projects.
• Excellent analytical skills for root cause analysis and troubleshooting complex design challenges.
• Ability to interpret schematics and technical documentation across multiple engineering disciplines including mechanical, civil, and quantum engineering.
• Strong communication skills for documenting findings clearly and collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
