Job Title: Design Engineer (SCS & Telecom)
Requirement – 1 No.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics, Telecommunications, or Electrical Engineering.
Experience: 5 to 7+ years of experience in an EPC environment, specifically handling SCS and Telecom design for utility substations up to the 400kV level.
Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of gateway data mapping, IEC 61850 protocols, and standard telecommunication practices for the power sector. Familiarity with local utility network standards is highly preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
Substation Control Systems (SCS):
- Design, configure, and modify SCS architectures for high-voltage substations up to 400kV.
- Integrate Bay Control Units (BCUs) and ensure all critical substation alarms, controls, and status signals are accurately mapped to the National Control Center (NCC) and Emergency NCC (ENCC).
- Support End-to-End testing between the substation and the control centers to verify reliable data transmission.
Telecommunication & Fiber Optics:
- Plan the routing, termination, and splicing of Fiber Optic networks, including 48-fiber approach cables and Optical Ground Wires (OPGW).
- Coordinate and oversee Fiber Optic End-to-End testing between different substations to ensure robust communication links.
- Design structured cabling systems to support IP telephony and secure communications across the substation buildings.
System Integration & Upgrades:
- Knowledge of multi-vendor control systems (including Siemens, ABB, Areva, and GE) to upgrade existing substations without disrupting live grid operations.
- Integrate advanced monitoring networks, such as Digital Fault Recording Systems (DFRS) and online Dissolved Gas Analyzers (DGA) for transformers.
- Configure secure network routers and firewalls to connect local substation data safely to central monitoring servers.
Vendor Coordination & Documentation:
- Review and assess vendor drawings, technical submittals, and equipment manuals to ensure they strictly align with the project's design intent and utility specifications.
- Coordinate technical clarifications directly with relay and equipment manufacturers to resolve design discrepancies before manufacturing and delivery.
