Job Title: Design Engineer

The Systems Group is looking for an energetic individual to be our next Design Engineer for our Spray Cool division. We are looking for someone to help with the day-to-day issues that pop up but to also be part of the big picture and contribute to the long-term strategy of our operations across the country. PURPOSE: We are looking for an entry level Design Engineer to support Sales and Project Management to identify and define Customer project requirements for equipment and piping needs. Create detailed designs used in the manufacture of various Spray-Cooled equipment. Additionally, will create piping flow schematics that are utilized in the construction of piping systems as well as determine piping routing and model the piping system. Will work with 3D modeling software and laser scans.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Develop 3D models from sketches and data provided
  • Must be able to visualize, conceptualize and formulate a design in 3D from similar existing designs
  • Ability to learn quickly and work on multiple projects
  • Exercise independent judgment by utilizing the correct design criteria based on knowledge from customer data and project scope
  • Research new products and technologies to support our technology
  • Review customer drawings and other discipline drawings and any existing plan drawings for physical interferences and design requirements
  • Provide technical support for project engineers and managers, client inquiries and fabrication requests
  • Ability to coordinate with other Systems Group members and contractors across multiple software platforms
  • Effectively communicate with the project engineer, project manager and customer representatives to identify project design requirements
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of equipment and piping designs
  • Must be able to visit job sites and take measurements for equipment design including performing 3D laser scanning
  • Must have prior experience using AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor, or other 3D software
  • Will develop 3D simulations of equipment and piping movements

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Bachelor degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical or Structural
  • Possess a strong mechanical aptitude
  • Knowledge of electric arc steelmaking a plus
  • Knowledge of metal plate fabrication and welding preferred
  • Knowledge of piping design and components preferred
  • Knowledge of heat transfer and fluid dynamics is required
  • Knowledge of integration of laser scan point cloud data into 3D modeling software is a plus
  • Experience with FEA and CFD is a plus
  • Some travel required
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team are essential
  • Must have good communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate with multiple disciplines
  • This is an entry level salaried position in the Engineering department
