The Laurel Studio is an emerging, full-service interior design firm based in Doylestown, PA. Founded as a partner to Period Architecture, our primary market is high-end single family residential, with aspirations of working our way into the restaurant and boutique hospitality scene. As we build the foundation of the studio, we are seeking a highly organized, personable, and proactive problem solver to join our team in the role of Designer.

The Opportunity

As Designer, you will directly contribute to ongoing projects and the documentation that drives them. Spanning all phases of a project’s journey, you will work with the Creative Director to curate design, prepare presentation materials, propose design solutions, and interface with our clients. This is a unique opportunity to have an active role in a busy new studio, building processes and relationships that will define our success and reputation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research and compile reference imagery aligned with client’s aesthetic.
  • Investigate design trends, references, and precedents to inspire project direction.
  • Translate design ideas into sketches, drawings, and digital visuals.
  • Develop design concepts, space plans and interior architecture.
  • Create cohesive material palettes and acquire product samples for review.
  • Create compelling client presentation decks and project reports.
  • Maintain organized digital and physical project files, drawings, and samples.
  • Update project timelines, deliverables, and progress trackers.
  • Direct FF&E sourcing, custom furniture development, and finish selections
  • Prepare and edit specification sheets, finish schedules, and design drawings.
  • Collaborate with project team throughout design process and installation.
  • Conduct site visits and manage installation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a design field, required
  • 3-5 years’ experience in the design industry, preferred
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Adobe Suite, Google Suite
  • Knowledge and curiosity for furniture, finishes, materials, color selections and specifications
  • Strong spatial understanding and ability to think through design challenges from multiple directions
  • Love for residential design and the families we have the joy of working with
  • Must be based in the Greater Philadelphia Area with reliable transportation to the office and job sites
