Metal Product DesignerPosition Overview

M&G Millwrights LLC is seeking an experienced Metal Product Designer to develop innovative, manufacturable metal products from concept through production. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on metal fabrication experience combined with advanced 3D CAD design skills. This role requires strong communication abilities, practical manufacturing knowledge, and the ability to transform customer requirements into detailed production-ready designs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop metal products, assemblies, and components using 3D CAD software.
  • Create detailed manufacturing drawings, assembly drawings, and bill of materials (BOMs).
  • Collaborate with fabrication, welding, machining, and production teams to ensure designs are practical and cost-effective.
  • Develop prototypes and assist with product testing and validation.
  • Modify and improve existing products for enhanced performance, manufacturability, and cost reduction.
  • Work directly with customers and internal teams to understand project requirements and design objectives.
  • Specify materials, tolerances, finishes, and manufacturing processes.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable industry standards and safety requirements.
  • Support production by resolving design-related issues and implementing engineering changes.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of metal fabrication experience, including welding, machining, forming, or assembly processes.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience using 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, Fusion 360, or similar platforms.
  • Strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication, structural steel fabrication, welding practices, and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to create detailed fabrication drawings and production documentation.
  • Fluent English speaking, reading, and writing skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard business software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with CNC laser cutting or plasma cutting, and metal forming operations.
  • Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
  • Experience managing products from concept through production.
  • Familiarity with ERP or manufacturing management systems.

Compensation

Compensation will be based on experience, qualifications, and demonstrated design and fabrication expertise.

Employment Type: Full-Time

Location: In Office

Pay: $25.46 - $30.66 per hour
