Full-time Contract Position – Hagerstown, MD

The Position
In this role, you will design and optimize tooling, jigs, fixtures, and semi-automated equipment that support manufacturing and assembly operations. Using Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) tools and 3D modeling platforms (3D Xperience), you’ll transform engineering concepts into detailed designs while ensuring manufacturability, safety, and precision. The ideal candidate combines hands-on design expertise with practical problem-solving, thrives in multi-disciplinary teams, and contributes to continuous improvement across product development and production.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Develop detailed mechanical designs for tooling, jigs, fixtures, lifting devices, and semi-automated equipment used in aircraft modification and component sub-assembly
  • Create and review CAD models, 3D Xperience layouts, and detailed 2D drawings for clarity, completeness, and accuracy
  • Identify and resolve design errors or deficiencies; recommend revisions and process improvements
  • Support manufacturing teams through design conception, fabrication, and tool tryout phases to ensure design integrity and efficiency
  • Collaborate with product engineering to enhance producibility and manufacturability during design, testing, and field use
  • Assist in defining tool acceptance criteria for in-house fabrication or vendor-supplied tools
  • Work cross-functionally within multi-disciplinary design and development teams to achieve project goals

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • No immediate direct reports

Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Typically 6+ years of relevant mechanical design experience (advanced degrees may substitute)
  • Proficiency in Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) tools and 3D modeling software such as 3D Xperience, CATIA, or SolidWorks
  • Solid understanding of engineering principles, mechanical systems, and tooling design processes
  • Ability to interpret and produce precise technical documentation and design drawings
  • Strong collaboration skills with cross-functional engineering and manufacturing teams

Preferred Experience
  • Experience designing for aerospace, defense, or high-precision manufacturing environments
  • Familiarity with product lifecycle management (PLM) systems and configuration control
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials selection, and GD&T standards
  • Proven ability to work with minimal supervision while maintaining high attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on continuous improvement and innovation

Work Environment
  • On-site position located in Hagerstown, Maryland
  • This is an 8-month contract

Compensation
  • Position offers an hourly W2 Rate between $35 - $40, with additional benefits
Requirements
  • Because this client is a Federal Government Contractor performing services for the DoD, US Air Force, NASA and others, they do require US, Non-Dual Citizenship
