Detox Manager

Position Summary

The Detox Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the detoxification program while ensuring high-quality medical and clinical care for individuals undergoing substance withdrawal. This role provides leadership to detox technicians and medical staff, ensures compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards, and collaborates closely with medical providers to coordinate safe detoxification protocols.

The Detox Manager maintains direct involvement in patient care while also performing administrative and supervisory duties. This position requires availability for overnight and weekend on-call coverage to support staff and ensure continuity of care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Program & Staff Oversight

  • Supervise detox technicians and support staff, providing guidance, training, and performance oversight
  • Ensure detox operations run efficiently and in compliance with medical and regulatory standards
  • Assist in hiring, onboarding, and training detox personnel
  • Maintain adequate staffing schedules including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Provide leadership during crisis situations and support staff in clinical decision-making

Clinical & Medical Coordination

  • Collaborate with the Medical Director and medical providers to implement detoxification protocols
  • Assist with patient assessments related to withdrawal symptoms, addiction severity, and medical needs
  • Monitor vital signs and withdrawal scales including CIWA and COWS as appropriate
  • Observe patients for signs of medical complications or changes in condition
  • Ensure timely reporting to medical providers and appropriate escalation when necessary
  • Administer or assist with basic medical procedures within scope of certification

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Ensure accurate documentation of patient care and services in the Electronic Health Record (EHR)
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA, state regulations, and accreditation standards
  • Track program performance, incident reports, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Coordinate communication between medical staff, clinical staff, and leadership
  • Assist with policy implementation and operational improvements within the detox program

Patient Care & Support

  • Educate patients on detoxification processes and available treatment options
  • Facilitate referrals to appropriate levels of care including outpatient, intensive outpatient, residential treatment, and sober living
  • Maintain a safe, supportive environment conducive to recovery
  • Assist with lab requisitions, urine drug screens, pregnancy tests, and other medical support tasks as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Current EMT or Medical Assistant (MA) certification required
  • Current CPR/AED certification
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in detox, addiction medicine, emergency medical services, or related healthcare settings
  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience preferred
  • Experience working in high-risk or crisis intervention environments
  • Strong knowledge of withdrawal management protocols including CIWA and COWS
  • Ability to exercise sound clinical judgment and respond appropriately in emergency situations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with EHR systems and basic computer applications
  • Current training on HIPAA and patient confidentiality
  • If in recovery, minimum one year of sobriety required

Desired Skills

  • Familiarity with Addiction Medicine standards and detox protocols
  • Knowledge of JCAHO/Joint Commission standards
  • Experience with insurance authorizations and medical documentation
  • Experience with lab coordination or phlebotomy preferred
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary treatment teams

Schedule

  • Full-time position
  • Must be available for rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and overnight on-call coverage

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds with or without assistance
  • Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
