Development and Events Intern

Historic, visionary institution seeks a part-time intern (16 hours per week from May though August) to support its Development Department. Development interns contribute to the success of John F. Kennedy Library Foundation programs, initiatives, and events. This is an ideal internship for an individual seeking to be exposed to the work of a dynamic nonprofit, and gain valuable skills in event execution, customer service, and database maintenance.

Responsibilities include:

  • Helping to maintain the Department’s CRM, Salesforce: processing contributions, completing data entry and updates, reviewing lists, pulling reports, performing data hygiene checks, and other items as assigned;
  • Contributing to preparations and providing day of staffing for events and programs, such as dinners and receptions, Award ceremonies, Board activities, New Frontier Network and member events, and more. If working with the Foundation during the spring, interns help support work for The May Dinner gala, the organization’s annual fundraising event, which features the presentation of the Profile in Courage Award.
  • Generating acknowledgements and completing mailings;
  • Responding to donor inquiries via phone and e-mail and providing superior customer service;
  • Conducting research for briefs on donors and potential funders;
  • Performing administrative tasks, such as drafting correspondence, updating webpages, maintaining accurate electronic and paper files, and more;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Additional Information:

This internship runs will be an average of 16 to 20 hours per week, primarily between Monday to Friday between the hours of 9am and 5pm. Events and their preparation may occur outside these hours and days and are discussed with interns as weekly schedules are prepared. This internship may be extended upon mutual agreement and at the Foundation’s sole discretion.

This is a hybrid position withtwo days per week spent on site at the JFK Presidential Library, which has free parking and is accessible by public transportation on the MBTA Red Line. Some hours may be completed remotely. There is a café on-site open from 10am to 5pm, as well as an employee lunch room. Dress code is business casual.Qualifications /

Requirements:

  • Ability to work onsite at the JFK Library in Boston two days per week
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Enthusiasm and desire to make an impact on a mission-driven team with strong work ethic
  • Detail-oriented with superior organizational skills and an ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Strong command of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Flexibility to work occasional evening and weekend events (dates provided in advance)
  • Eager to learn and work with the development department in a non-profit
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills

  • Build professional collaboration skills: experience being part of a team that crafts a mission- driven cultural experience;
  • Develop awareness of the many facets of development operations in a non-profit organization, including: stewardship of Board and donors, along with data entry operations;
  • Strengthen interpersonal skills and the ability to satisfy the requests of various staff members— supervisors, event attendees / visitors, principals, and advance teams—with grace and diplomacy.
