Position Title: Development Associate, Operations and Events
Department: Development
Reports To: Director of Development
Location: On-site at Canterbury Shaker Village, Canterbury, NH
Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for oversight and implementation of annual fundraising operations.
- In collaboration with the Director of Development, establish a goal, plan, and timeline for the annual fundraising campaign.
- Manages direct mail appeals associated with the annual campaign, including writing content, developing the mailing list, coordinating with a printer, organizing volunteer letter signing days, and maintaining the Village’s bulk mail permit.
- Liaisons with board members and other staff and volunteers working on the annual campaign.
- Supports the Director of Development with stewardship of donors including thank you calls.
- Supports the Manager of Communications and Engagement with crowdfunding appeals such as NH Gives and Giving Tuesday.
- Renews the Village’s charitable gaming license each year, ensures active applications to each gaming house, and manages the Village’s 10 annual gaming days.
- Supports the prospecting and solicitation of corporate sponsors.
Responsible for database management and donor stewardship operations.
- Maintains and improves the development database (Bloomerang) with a fine attention to detail according to institutional best practices.
- Receives, records, and acknowledges gifts, including annual campaign donations, memberships, sponsorships, and campaign gifts.
- Sends pledge reminders to donors as necessary.
- Maintains online and physical folders and files for development department.
- Oversees data collection and management, providing data exports and reports to staff and board for their use and analysis, with adherence to institutional confidentiality policies.
- Prepares and circulates weekly gift report.
- Prepares monthly campaign progress reports.
- Provides updated contact information to other staff as needed for regular and special communications.
- Prepares giving histories and background research on prospective donors.
Responsible for Development Team-Led Event Operations
- Supports the development of the annual calendar of events and activities.
- Leads on event logistics such as securing and managing vendors, creating ticket sale pages (FareHarbor), tracking RSVPs, coordinating staff and volunteer roles, and managing event day operations, including set-up, execution, and breakdown.
- Supports the Manager of Communications and Engagement in creating event-related content like invitations and sponsor signage (Canva).
Takes on Other Development Responsibilities, as requested, including:
- Captures photos and videos around the Village for content development.
- Assists the transition of membership operations from Visitor Services to Development.
- Supports the Manager of Communications to maintain mailing list data integrity across platforms.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- A bachelor’s degree or higher degree.
- Two or more years of experience in development, nonprofit administration, customer service, events, or related field.
Skills and Abilities:
- A go-getter, can-do attitude. Ability to adapt and adjust to changing circumstances and priorities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a good track record of maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Exemplary organizational and time management skills. Must be able to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
- Proficiency in multiple software platforms and tools, especially Microsoft Office Suite. Ability and willingness to learn to use new software. Familiarity with Bloomerang, Mailchimp, FareHarbor, and/or Canva a plus.
- Strong work ethic and ability to follow multi-step instructions and work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work with precision.
Work Environment:
- Most work will take place indoors, in an office environment. Some outdoor work may be required. The Village is a 700-acre site with activities and events taking place throughout.
- This is a full-time, on-site position, with a hybrid schedule negotiable. Work hours are generally from 9:00-5:00pm, with some evening and weekend work required with advance notice.
- Salary range is $44,000 to $54,000, based on experience, paid bi-weekly. Additional benefits include paid time off, medical reimbursement, and retirement.
