The Development Engineer will join Zelestra's US Engineering team to support technical aspects of the development, engineering, procurement, construction, and M&A activities in the US. The Development Engineer will perform technical due diligence of existing and proposed solar, energy storage, and wind; support permitting and preliminary design during early development; and coordinate with corporate technical resources in the execution of work.
- Reports to US Engineering Management to obtain work assignments, assess priorities, inform management on issues and seek their counsel as required, and obtain training and direction.
- As necessary, report to internal stakeholders (project development team, corporate functional resources, M&A team, and Project Management) on project work assignment at intervals established for the assignment.
- Support the technical assessment of solar PV/Energy Storage/Wind projects in USA in support of ongoing project acquisitions (constraint analysis, constructability reviews, desktop analysis, etc.)
- Support and perform technical activities of utility-scale solar, wind, and energy storage projects from site identification to the start of construction.
- Review of site studies for fatal flaws (Geotech, Hydrology, Env. Surveys, etc)
- Engage with staff to support land acquisition, environmental, permitting, site layout, long lead procurement, transmission, and interconnection
- Provide support on the preparation of project capital estimates for EPC of projects using latest project estimates, contractual obligations, and operating projections
- Support energy offtake, financing, and project M&A discussions, including due diligence activities.
- Lead development & review of engineering timelines to achieve stated project milestones
- Ensure project tasks are progressing on schedule and within budget.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders to provide information throughout the development and EPC process. Providing a consolidated summary of findings during due diligence review
- Lead site visits to evaluate technical aspects of project, define site characteristics and develop relationships with local stakeholders.
- Remain abreast of renewable energy technologies and their application to utility-scale projects in the United States and the national industry trends impacting the future of solar and renewable development opportunities and their competitiveness as they relate to customers.
- Review of equipment for safe harbor and domestic content strategy
- Carry out other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience with at least 2 years of experience in utility-scale renewable energy.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with Masters degree in engineering field desirable.
- Deep understanding of 10%/30%/60%IFC Design drawings/process for solar and energy storage
- Licensed Professional Engineer of the ability of obtain Professional Engineering licensing preferred.
- Requires knowledge of renewable energy technical standards and practices; and the ability to stay current with changing technologies, regulations, and trends influencing the continued adoption of renewable energy.
- Existing professional relationships with renewable energy technical providers a plus.
- Able to work independently once provided work assignments, managing time effectively and being able to be responsive when working with a geographically diverse team. Strong prioritization, communication and organizational skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including presentation abilities.
- Experience in Microsoft Office suite of tools, Bluebeam, PV design and production tools required.
