Position title: Development & Marketing Communications Manager


Department: Development


Reports to: VP of Development

Position Summary

The Development and Marketing Communications Manager supports the Development team and Vice President of Marketing and External Affairs. This position initiates and manages the implementation of various integrated strategies to meet fundraising goals at UCAN. In addition, this position works closely with the Director of Development and assists in managing UCAN's events, donor relations, internal and external communications, research, and analysis.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities


Donor Relations

  • Assists with analyzing Online Express or JustGiving data for events or annual donations.
  • Provides support to UCAN's fundraising team's annual giving processes and procedures.
  • Provides special event and meeting support, including photography. Assists with donor stewardship, volunteerism, and donor recognition.
  • Supports executive donor and staff communication
  • Works with the External Affairs team to ensure fundraising language is inserted, where appropriate, into outgoing communications.
  • Works with the Director of Development to draft electronic fundraising appeals (end of the year, spring, fall, etc.).
  • Supports the Director of Development in fundraising activities, including identifying and managing strategies and tactics for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts.
  • Provides prompt responses to all donor inquiries.
  • All other duties as assigned by the VP of Development.

Marketing & Communications


  • Contributes to creating, reviewing, producing, and distributing marketing communications collateral and appeals to highlight UCAN programs, special events, donors, program participants, staff, honorees and fundraising campaigns.
  • Provides content management support via WordPress to the UCAN website, social media channels and by posting content and images.
  • Supports the Vice President of Marketing and External Affairs and staff, as needed, in managing time-sensitive multimedia inquiries and coordinating UCAN's media sponsorships and marketing partnerships with community and corporate partners.
  • Tracks and documents UCAN's social media statistics and generates Social Media Impact Analysis report as needed.
  • Manages Google Analytics data and digital communications from UCAN's website and microsites, as needed, for internal use.
  • Interviews and writes stories about clients, donors, staff, volunteers, award winners, programs, etc., for external use.
  • Assists with internal communications as appropriate on the UCAN Link employee portal with real-time updates and posts.
  • Writes compelling content for UCAN's e-newsletters, and other online communications tools.
  • Manages the creation and distribution of UCAN's donor publications and annual reports.
  • Manages UCAN's social media (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn), and helps implement online communications strategy. Develop and monitor creative methods for increasing engagement.
  • Ensures powerful messaging and consistency across communications vehicles, including the website, email, E-newsletters, and campaign collateral.
  • Works closely with the External Relations team to develop a donor social media communication plan.
  • Manages UCAN's email communication plan that builds the brand and engages donors, volunteers, board members, and youth.

Event Management & Support

  • Manages UCAN's virtual events, and supports the annual Holiday Gift Drive
  • Assists with the planning and execution of the annual UCAN Leadership Awards (ULA).
  • Manages the application process for ULA applicants, engages youth, and manages the scholarship application and award process.
  • Assists with the planning, marketing, and execution of other development events.
  • Attends virtual or in-person events to represent UCAN and the Development team.

Administration

  • Assists with researching funding and sponsorship opportunities.
  • Performs occasional clerical duties, such as note-taking, ordering of supplies, meeting scheduling and preparation, and invoice processing.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Education/Job Experience/Certification:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • A minimum of 3-4 years of fundraising experience is required.
  • Knowledge of non-profit best practices is preferred.
  • Knowledge of best practices in social media management and collateral creation.

Special Knowledge and Qualifications:

  • Has an understanding of trauma-informed practice and Positive Youth Development.
  • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to consistently meet deadlines, sometimes under pressure.
  • Flexible approach to workload and scheduling.
  • Strong customer service focus and attitude.
  • Ability to engage and interact with a wide variety of people.
  • Experience with fundraising software (Raiser's Edge).
  • Experience with website editing preferred.
  • A genuine interest in social services.

Position Status: Full Time/Hybrid position with the option to work remotely and three days in the office (Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday).

Non-Exempt

Work Environment: This position has some direct contact with clients.

Work Conditions: This position may require work on weekends and evenings.
