Overview
Established and growing YACHT service company is seeking a motivated diesel engine mechanic/technician with at least 10 years of experience working on Detroit Diesel, Yanmar, CAT, Cummins, MAN, MTU, Volvo Penta, and/or Kubota engines. The ideal candidate will also possess a working knowledge of electrical (AC & DC) and hydraulics. This role requires knowledge, experience, attention to detail, cleanliness, planning, punctuality, and people skills to ensure that our team consistently delivers top-notch customer service.
Responsibilities
- Perform general maintenance, diagnostics & repairs for a wide variety of diesel engines & generators.
- Correctly identify symptoms and diagnose causes of various issues the FIRST time.
- Perform basic diesel engine maintenance tasks such as: oil & filter changes; alternator & starter replacement; belt, gasket, & zinc replacement; and basic cooling system services.
- Perform general diesel engine diagnostic, repair, and maintenance including: engine alignment; valve adjustment; fuel injector, injection pump, & turbo replacement; and heat exchanger & major cooling system service.
- Perform advanced engine services including re-powers and major overhauls.
- Use reference materials such as service manuals and parts diagrams to correctly identify parts needed for maintenance & repair work orders.
- Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair engine electrical, electronics, and instrumentation issues.
- Maintain DETAILED and accurate records of ALL parts/materials used and services performed.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area & protect surfaces from potential damage.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations within the company.Fabricate parts or modify components as needed to meet specific repair or operational requirements.
- Use hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, soldering tools, and other mechanical devices to complete repairs accurately.
- Maintain detailed service records, logs of repairs performed, and ensure compliance with safety standards.
Qualifications
- Proven experience working as a marine diesel engine technician or in a similar automotive or heavy equipment repair role.
- Ability to read schematics and technical manuals accurately for diagnostics and repairs.
- Excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate clearly with clients and co-workers regarding repairs and maintenance needs.
- Physical ability to perform manual labor including lifting heavy parts or equipment safely.
- Extensive experience working on a wide variety of (marine) diesel engines.
- Proven task & time management skills/experience.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- High school or general equivalency degree (GED)
- Advanced education/coursework and ABYC certification is highly desirable.
- Experience with outboard (gas) engines is highly desirable.
- Basic computer skills and ability to read, write and perform basic math calculations.
- Other than specialized tools and equipment furnished by the employer, technicians shall have a complete range of commonly found tools needed to complete assigned tasks in both standard and metric formats up to 1 inch / 26 mm.
- Must have an excellent work ethic and attitude.
- Must maintain a high standard of workmanship.
- Must possess the ability to periodically board vessels in and out of the water, work steadily in confined spaces, climb, lift and move lumber, tools and supplies as necessary.
- Ability to stoop, crouch, pull, push, reach, kneel, stand, grasp, lift up to 50 lbs.
- Be able to walk to and from work locations up to 500 yards in distance.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for any employer.
Pay: $1,000.00 - $1,500.00 per week
